@Noel7,  I know.  There is so much devastaton.  Yes, they should receive water by airplane.  It's done all the time.  Hopefully, the plane is on it's way there if not already there.

actually water etc is coming in - they had to get airport/ports in working order to receive planes and barges.something like 10 barges were pre-positioned with crucial supplies by FEMA.  but they will have very serious long-term problems. their electrical grid is destroyed.  due to declining finances they neglected modernization/upkeep on the system and now Maria has devastated it. they have to depend on generators.  i don't know how they will rebuild since their bankruptcy impedes them from borrowing.

Re: Puerto Rico Donations

[ Edited ]

I donated $ specifically for Puerto Rico through the charity created by all our living ex-presidents. It was bad enough to see the devastation in Texas and in Florida but at least those victims had places where they could evacuate. Puerto Rico is an island. The people have nowhere to go except the mainland. Those who can afford it and have the strength to wait on endlessly long lines at the airport until they can leave will evacuate. The poor and infirm will be stuck.

I appreciate the media reminding us that Puerto Rico is part of the USA. After a category 5 hurricane assaulted the island, it is cruel to point to their pre-Maria financial and infrastructure problems. No structure could survive the power of that storm. Just look at the photos of the Hurricane Andrew aftermath in FL to be reminded of what a powerful hurricane can do.

@Vivian

I'm pretty sure we will go with One Appeal, also.  It feels safe and will be a direct contribution.  We're doing a family contribution, should have it done tonight.

Puerto Rico is a very corrupt country.  I hope the donations actually get to where they are needed.

@saltysails

puerto rico isnt a "country," it is a US territory.

your comment about donations though is a valid one, but one that could be applied to ANY of the areas affected, not just to puerto rico. i do believe that almost everyone tries to choose their charitable organizations wisely.

Re: Puerto Rico Donations

A few minutes ago I donated to One Nation, One Appeal (a.k.a., One America Appeal), the site supported by our former U.S. Presidents.  The site allows you to select your donation's direction by hurricane name: Harvey, Irma and Maria.

My email receipt for the donation was from the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation.  Very nice touch.

E.T.A.  Thank you to the ladies who thought to promote this idea of supporting Puerto Rico in its hour of need and also offered possible charities where we can send our donations.

Much obliged to you.

Mark Cuban sent his plane with supplies to Puerto Rico, good for him.
