With all the other serious problems with food, fixating on this amazes me. M&M's are not a major food group, don't supply any required nutrients, and shouldn't be consumed in huge quantities. The very thin outer coating containing the dye seems innocuous to me.

I hope Red Velvet Cake won't be "attacked" next, that has  some serious red food coloring.

As others have rightly pointed out, the sugar content would be the more problematic. Those truly oncerned with healthy food are probably steering clear of M&M's.  I know I don't partake of them, but I defend the right of those that do. JMHO.

Yes.....they should start making Kale Kandy, Beet Bars, etc., instead.

@Desertdi Smiley LOL  Your suggestion:

I am sure OP would be first in line to buy those delectable items.  Stockholders and board of the company will fire CEO and CFO at the first hint of this.  Fox Business Channel will run with the story and Neil Cavuto will analyze it to death.  Gwyneth Paltrow will pick up the line for her online store, and jack the price up. The A-list hollywood types will jump on the bandwagon.  Maybe we'll get ads like the "milk mustache ones." The benefits just seem "endless".  Smiley Wink

@CatLoverDogsToo     I just knew you would understand.   Meanwhile, I think I will make a double chocolate, hot fudge banana split...........with some of those deadly chemical-colored maraschino cherries for garnish (!!!!!!)

'Call me cr*zy', but I'm only guessing that just about everything has artificial coloring.   And flavoring.   Lots of seniors in their nineties I know have been eating M&M's and other snacks for years and years, and they seem pretty healthy to me.  A few even always have a bowl of M&M's and other candies on their coffee or kitchen/dining tables.  'Go figure'............

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I've got two bags of M&M's with Almonds waiting for me in the cupboard.

I figure the almonds make them healthy enough for me to eat.

At least that's what I keep telling myself. :-)

I too enjoy M&M's from time to time.  But, like many other things, the bags keep getting smaller while the price remains the same.  So I don't buy them as much.

I've seen kale and beet "treats".

The kale is dried and eaten like potato chips.  Now I love kale but not dried out like that.

I also don't like beets so Beet Bars would be a "gag" factor for me.  LOL
