It's been going on for decades. I started getting sexually harassed in the 60's when I joined the work force. So easy to put a stop to it. One guy made the mistake of patting my behind ~ one quick turn and a slap and he never came near me again.

Re: Harassment or Discrimination?

@pattypeep  I realize it is a cartoon; what bothers me is the charactization of the woman as unattractive.  I already posted what I thought of that figure.

For me, and only for me, it indicates a woman needing attention who isn't getting any from her boss, assuming that is her boss.

It is the depiction of a not so attractive woman not getting sexual attention and feeling left out-I guess because only her attractive co-workers are getting this "attention".

I wouldn't hit you.

Re: Harassment or Discrimination?

At least now I know exactly what I dislike about this cartoon. As the OP and a few others have explained, they think that this whole harassment thing is overblown, that handling such situations is a breeze, and that accusers can't be trusted.

So yeah, I hate this cartoon. It plays into general stereotypes and mimimizes, through ridicule, sexual harassment.

It is a cartoon.

Harassment or discrimination is yet an incentive for the woman.

The woman is slovenly looking; her legs appear to be unshaven, her breasts droop in an ill-fitting dress, her hair is blech and overall she's not attractive.

So here we have the typical "only good-looking women get hit on and if you are not good-looking then no man wants you.  So you have to sue to get attraction".

I'd like to meet the person who thought this was funny.

Glad to meet you, I think it is funny.

How sad people can't/don't have a sense of humor anymore.

The core topic that this refers to is indeed serious and needs change.

But there is humor in most anything in life, if you are willing to see it.

So many here simply aren't willing...too busy grinding the ole' ax.

@Mominohio  I respect your pov but I don't consider myself lacking a sense of humor.

I just don't find this particular cartoon funny.

I also wouldn't hit you.

Cartoons like that are why women often keep to themselves their encounters with harassment in the workplace. There will always be a segment of society who imply it's the woman's fault. If only she had slapped the jerk or handled things differently putting the onus on the victim instead of the perp.

I find anything that jokes about such a sensitive subject rather crass.

No hitting here either! Nothing discussed here would lead me to that!

I know for myself, my mood or just the 'place' I'm at in my life can make something seem funny or not. We are all coming from different places and at a different point in our lives.

I find it funny because I know/have known so many older women who are simply uncensored in their comments, and views, and even when I don't agree with them or think they might be out of line, the fact that they have no filter is just funny to me. It takes a certain irreverence to be the way they are (and I kind of admire that to a point). The lady in the cartoon strikes me that way, and why I find her funny.

Re: Harassment or Discrimination?

I think I have a great sense of humor...sometimes even dark but it I try to use it here, I'd be banned..  However, I don't see the humor in this cartoon and I'd be willing to bet the cartoonist is a man and the issue might go right over his head.

Also, the poor woman seems to have a stick for an arm!
