I do live in an upscale area but I still think a quality bakery (not a grocery store) would charge a comparable price and I would imagine the Cheesecake Factory prices are the same nationwide.

My grocery store has an incredible cheeze cake that looks similar to this and about the same price!  I've had Jrs and it's wonderful and I served it for Christmas company many years ago and it was worth it..... but if I can get to my local supermarket to buy, their bakery is outstanding!!

Just depends on what you need and are willing to pay.... I've been disappointed for the money more times than happy with the food products so I've stopped purchasing food from QVC.  But I do have to add that if I couldn't get to the supermarket I'd probably buy the products I (and my DH) liked and pay the price for it simply for the convenience.

If I don't have time to bake our local Wegmans bakery beats all the local bakeries.  We all love their their carrot cake and pastries.  They have a large selection of  breads and rolls.  I never go to their store hungry.  They are baking fresh all day long.

That is around the pricing here at the bakeries. You can get it cheaper in grocery stores, but not in a decent bakery. The places that use real butter, the best vanilla, chocolate and expensive spices. I live near a plaza called Cameron Village. It is where a lot of nicer shops are. The rent there is expensive. I don't think you can get a cake in there for less than $50 but they have excellent cakes. Delicious. I assume you are talking about QVC and I haven't had a cake from there I don't think so I can't speak on the quality.

A lot of people simply don't have the time to bake around the holidays and/or they simply don't like to bake. Some don't mind spending that type of money at all and it isn't a financial burden to them.

There is a girl who bakes out of her home and for years I have always gotten her caramel cake (until I had time this year to test recipes and make one of my own) and she is around $50-$70 depending on the size. I definitely wouldn't pay that at a Food Lion or Kroger but Fresh Market cakes are around that amount too.
