If someone else is buying and I am eating, sure it's not a bad price at all.

I don't think that's bad.

I know you can make a cake for a few bucks, but sometime you just want to splurge...

When my dad was alive he really looked forward to my sending him a cake every few months. I am so happy that I did now that he is gone. He really raved about some of the food I sent him from QVC. He missed my mom's home cooking and she was the one who used to go to the bakery to choose a cake.

I think QVC serves a purpose for a lot of people who just want something very special for a holiday or special occasion.

Re: Respectfully--$60 for a cake?

I make box mix cakes and homemade cakes all year. Every once in awhile it's nice to get a special cake already made, and especially in flavors I don't usually make at home.

I buy the Jr's 18 mini cheese cakes twice a year. This time I just went on auto delivery...just love them. Nice to have on hand for special treats for desserts for DH and I.

Last week I ordered the British cupcakes (hold onto your chair)...12 cupcakes for $47.56...for my B-Day next month. DH and I can't wait to try them...such unique flavor combos...such fun!

We also indulged in Emeril's crab cakes on A-D this year...YUM!!!

Everything else is bought with coupons matched with sales at our local grocery stores or WM. No harm in enjoying special treats once in awhile. We are only on this earth so long...splurging can be a good thing Smiley Very Happy

Re: Respectfully--$60 for a cake?

My local bakery charges $40 for an eight inch cheesecake, so $60 doesn't seem too bad.  I'd still bake my own and keep the money.

Re: Respectfully--$60 for a cake?

I've said this before and I'll say it again, Costco makes a great cheese cake for 15 bucks or so. I have bought cakes and cheese cakes from the Q in the past, but I won't spend 60 bucks for a cake of any kind for the holidays.

[ Edited ]

I bought one last year as a special Christmas dessert, and we were very disappointed. It was, well, rather common. I will never do it again. I was willing to pay that for something really great, but it wasn't even especially good, let alone great. I should have asked for my money back, but in the busy-ness of the holiday, I forgot to complain. I did write a bad review, though.

Re: Respectfully--$60 for a cake?

I've seen six-inch cakes for $42+, so, around here, it's fairly common for those who wish to spend that price range on a tiny cake. Not for me, but for others, it's fine. .... Just as long as they don't come around, asking me for $ for 'this and that', if you know what I mean .........

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I think in a upscale bakery, that is about the norm. I'm not talking about a grocery store bakery

Re: Respectfully--$60 for a cake?

I absolutely love the cheesecakes from my local Walmart bakery. They are delicious! You buy it by the slice or the whole cake and sampler cakes, too! This one is less than $14:
