We do not have a bakery. Nearest one is 35 miles.  We do have a supermarket bakery, but not so good.    There is a Costco a few miles away, but their cakes have that lard like frosting.  Sometimes they'd do have sweet endings cakes.

and don't talk to me about buying local.  I don't even  enter, nor have I ever shopped Walmart because they'd hurt our local business.  I have gone out of my way to make sure when we remodeled our bedroom bath we bought all American, except for some nails and screws.  I drove the contractor nuts, and had to stall project to wait for fixtures to be made.

whats all the stink about others spend their money

Many things aren't, but people still have the right to do what they want. It's their choice in a free society

Re: Respectfully--$60 for a cake?

I bake my own cakes and pies year around and I enjoy doing so. But if I want to splurge once a year, well, I enjoy doing that as well!

My money, my choice. At one time, I would have thought it was expensive. I no longer think so.

YES this!!

Gotta agree -- keep it local, especially with something like a cake.

I agree but I think there are a lot of people who do the Bill to Ship to on the food items that QVC sells.

I remember years ago trying to find a bakery in his area that would deliver to my dad who lived out of state. I called around and not one would. So I resorted to QVC for a special treat for him every few weeks....

Re: Respectfully--$60 for a cake?

I do my own baking, so I generally don't order cakes.  I did recently order a Smith Island Cake from Maryland for my dear friend's 50th wedding anniversary, I live in VA and she lives in PA and, with shipping, I paid almost $50 for a cake that would feel 8 people, the larger cake was even more, shippng was high.   My friend said it was the best cake she ever had.  So, yes, I'll spend that kind of money on speical occasions and/or when I can't be there for family/friends.

I normally would not pay that much for a cake----however---there is an Italian bakery that makes the most incredible Bavarian iced  cake that I would buy for that amount!!!! It is AMAZING !! Maybe once a year for a special dinner---yes, I would!!!!

I tried to tell people that the reason I couldn't keep myself from ordering the British cupcakes was because of you ladies. Haha  Apparently that was deamed as mean. I give up
