ETA: I didn't realize when they move it, they tell you where it was moved. I think that is fair. Not a big deal to go to that new location if you are interested in the topic.

Here's another reason why I like subforums (although I think there are too many). If I am going through a hard time after losing my own pet and can't take anymore sadness regarding pet losses or illnesses, I know I can just avoid the pet lovers forum for awhile.

If I or a family member is dealing with a serious illness than I can choose to avoid the wellness formula if I don't want to see/read posts about a bunch of other diseases and illnesses.

Or if I am stressed out and only want to take my mind off of all the stress and just want to read about everyone's travels or a good book, I know I can go to those forums to do so without alot of other serious discussions.

That may sound selfish for wanting subforums but some of these forums have alot of downer stuff that dominates that particular forum. I personally come to these forums mainly to try to distract myself from "real" life and all the stressors so always having to wade through negative or sad posts can really weigh on me -sometimes we can only take so much, you know?

My take is that for specific information, e.g., interior paint colors, the right place to ask is in the forum where that topic might be best discussed by people with a mutual interest and experience. Otherwise, as I've seen too frequently, you are likely to get responses such as, "I have no idea about that, but doesn't the current host look dreadful." Then, too, in this forum in particular, you expose your topic for skewing every-which-way-from-Sunday, or arguments to ensue about the quality of your post, your grammar, or the font size you use.

My peeve flares when the Moderators permit the adulteration of the Recipes forum. That is a topic specific forum, yet they sometimes allow long threads without a single recipe being included.

As with society in general, things would run more coherently if everyone respected set parameters without thinking their case is special.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

It's a request for a paint color. It belongs in Home. Now seriously, who knows specificiallly what a paint color is named. Unless one has an entire board of paint colors displayed in their home (unlikely) or has paper paint chips laying around (I don't), no one will really truly give you their opinion.

I'm sure they'll be answers like, blue, light blue, baby blue, navy but those aren't specifically paint colors. Don't forget each paint manufacturer has their own names too.

I was reading that thread. How do they know the specific color/brand, (besides their own paint in their home or having a paint swatch card)?

I would have said blue too. lol

@HappyDaze I posted earlier on this thread about not wanting pet grief or pet sickness posts in Community Chat. Like you, there are days I just don't want to read them (and in fact, I don't go often to the pet forum). Even the title can be a downer so I wish people with pet issues, esp. grief issues, would post those threads in the pet forum. There have been a couple in Community Chat lately and I got the impression it was because the poster wanted maximum exposure and atention which was a bit selfish in terms of those of us who don't want to read those threads. The posts belong in the pet forum. So I'm agreeing with you. Same goes for illness threads. There is a Among Friends forum.

I remembered the Q doing this to disband a friendly group of Soap watchers that met regularly in Pet Lovers. So, I guess the rules are pretty rigid, then. Not quite so sure I understand why, though. Sometimes I've filtered the search to Recent Posts to get a cross sample when first logging in.

@deedledeedeedle I wasn't on the board then, but I got to a pet forum to read about pets; not soap operas. That definitely belongs in TV. Why can't the "friendly group" read over there and be friendly?

On behalf of the MODS, I apologize for a lack of consistency in moving threads to the different forums. We do understand that people sometimes post a thread in a different forum than the topic would suggest so they can "spread their net" wider. Sometimes the OP will actually ask the MODS to move the thread when they realize there is a forum for their topic. Also it can be a very ambiguous line between forms where the thread can really be applied in two or even three forums. We are generally more concerned with duplicate threads as is more confusing to posters. And then there are the time constraints - when we have the time we respond to requests especially if it is the OP.

A lot of old timers left for this very reason. They were friends with someone here, then they add another 10-15 more forums. They decided it wasn't worth spending half their time trying to find their friends.

As you say, many want more views on a particular topic, which as most know, that forum is Community Chat. I recently started a thread on this forum about losing one of our furry kids. Sure, I could have put it on the Pet Lovers Forum, but I chose this forum because more that can relate to this sadness, and know that they are not alone when they deeply grieve for a furry one to which they have had to say goodbye.

I just counted 26 in the column to the left of this post and that, to me, is at least twice as many as I want to see. Bring contributors closer together? Easy, get rid of a dozen or more of these forums.

@hckynut@ Well, I really do disagree with this. Grief over a pet is one thing the pet forum is for. I don't know who the "many" you refer to are who want more views - but IMO it's the poster posting in the wrong forum for maximum exposure in community chat. Please consider @HappyDaze's point, that not everybody is in the mood to be "brought down" by a sad pet grief thread. Again, that's what the Pet Lovers forum is for - to go there if you are in the mood to read about pets - whether one died or someone just adopted one or cute photos or whatever. Posting deliberately in the wrong forum to me indicates some kind of "entitlement" attitude that the appropriate subforum doesn't apply to them but rather to others. Sorry, I don't mean to come across as harsh about this, just disagreeing with you.

As to celebrity deaths, I really think those could go both ways and is an overlap issue. Many people might "know of" a celebrity without ever having seen his or her film(s) or even know the person was in a TV show once. I think that's definitely a judgment call issue as to which forum it would be in. And there is no music forum so where should one post about Gregg Allman for example?
