@Carmie ............Thank you for confirming about nails and teeth in many colors. I worked in the medial profession for many years and my statement that nails (goes for teeth & bones also) are not white but varing shades of yellow/brown. I learned that the paler the skin the less white the bones (which includes nails and teeth). But I did not respond to the poster that said her nails were white. It would have been a waste of time as she most likely would not have believed me anyway.

I agree that the older generations always find fault with the younger styles and fad's. Everything recycles.

It's been a while back, maybe 15-20 years ago. The national news reported a large increase in infant deaths in a particular NICU. Upon investigation, it was found that several people in the NICU had artificial fingernails. Large amounts of bacteria were found on the bottom side of the nails. After this problem was discovered and measures taken, infant mortality rates returned to a more normal level. They found that artificial nails carry more bacteria than natural nails. What's interesting, and I don't remember, why gloves on the hands didn't control this problem. Hmmm ... Message is ... whether they are natural or artificial, keep 'em clean.

I've gone through a couple long nail phases. My manicurist liked them and they were attractive, I must admit.

However, long nails can compromise the "practical" activities ... and if you've ever "caught" and broken a long nail on an immoveable object, you know how PAINFUL that can be. Ouch!

@Tinkrbl44 I get that , it's certainly happened to me , And yes it hurts , a lot ! I've learned to adapt with my nails long so i don't have many incidents . In fact when they are short I find it hard to pick up things after all these years. If I wasn't gifted with strong nails from my mom I wouldn't have gels , acrylics etc. I would just keep them short and

neat which looks lovely as well.

Oh, get real. I'm 63 and women have been wearing very long pointy nails my entire life. My mom called her sister's nails talons. My aunt liked red nails. And then artificial nails came on the scene. First porcelain then acrylics. Ovals, squared off, pointy but almost always long. My aunt's nails were always natural and she managed to do everything with them. It was crazy. Of course, a well groomed woman cared for her nails regardless of how long or short they are; natural or artificial. Maintaining fake nails is expensive and some women just don't have the money to get nails filled when they need it. I have never seen any host or vendor on any shopping channel with dirty nails or poorly maintained nails. If you have seen that, please post pictures.

I haven't watched a Q presentation in years, but I HAVE seen dirty nails on a host. It's disgusting.

While some women do outlandish nails for the attention, the reactions aren't always positive, but that actually doesn't seem to matter to many. I guess that even bad responses are better than being ignored. Go figure.

The other day I had a woman checking me out at the grocery store. It got to the point, I really don't know how she was able to do her job.

The woman checking out in front of me handed her coupons. The check out woman had a hard time trying to put in the numbers into her register. Then she had a tough time trying to pick up the coupons. She just about lost it giving the woman change out of the register.

It took forever and I was thinking why the cashier thought that was the job for her. She was unable to use her finger tips. And the compartment to get coins for change are small. I wondered if her nails stayed on until the end of her shift.
