@Imaoldhippie     Yup....we're in the same age range.    I get a "little artsy" with my toenails...but I am afraid if I tried it with my fingernails, folks at the bank  might think I'm a little...well you know.....ummmmm.....a bit "off"!

I have wondered the same thing.  How do you get anything done.  I have dogs and I wash my hands so many times a day.  Long nails would feel unsanitary.

Before retiring I used to treat myself and always got a French Gel manicure every 2 weeks, although I always kept my nails short and the technician would always clean the undersides of my nails with a nail drill.

I always wonder how they take care of themselves. There was a clerk when I used to shop at Walmart ages ago who had very long nails to the point that she couldn't pick up money and I never wanted her to even touch anything I was taking home with me. Even with constant hand washing, which I'm hoping anyone in the public would do, there's no way they're cleaning under their nails. Yuck!

@grandma r   I didn't like the long pointed nails when they were so popular in the 1980's.  Sorry the current fashionistas have chosen to recycle that style.

I even remember I once told a colleague of mine who was nearing the date of a repeat interview for a promotion that she was unlikely to get the new job if she waved her long nails.  I believe there were also other reasons she was pssed by, but those nails, oh my, those nails!

There is a waitress at a shore diner that has incredibly long nails that are usually painted a bright neon color with all sorts of decoration on them.

I try not to get her as a waitress although she is very competent and friendly.  It's the thought of what is under the tips of those nails....scraping the underside would have to be an ongoing project for cleanliness's sake.  Touching food dishes, cups, glasses could be troublesome for the diner.......

She must see the cringing and stares those nails provoke.

I don't care about nails, hairstyles, eyeglasses, and other things personal to hosts. Some will like what others do and some won't. To each their own. That's a good part of life.
