I've seen older women with gorgeously adorned or longer nails.
Expecting people to behave, dress, style hair, do their nails, etc, to match a certain age is still misogyny. If you're lucky, you'll live to that certain age.

I would rather see long intricately decorated nails than bitten, peeled and jagged stubs and dirty, bleeding cuticles. I see more people with ungroomed nails than groomed.

Pointy nails are a fad right now, it will runs its course and will be replaced with a new trend.
Fake nails do not grow out, our real ones do. Depending on the individual the grow out time takes 2 to 3 weeks when most go the the salon for a fill in.
@Imaoldhippie I have to disagree , I have real nails , I wear them long and mine are a healthy white tip and a pink nail bed ! I get compliments on my nails all the time as you can tell they are my own "real" nails . I have friends with fake , acyrlic or gels and you can see the growth from the cuticle when they need a fill I guess it's called . I have worn them long since I was 15 yrs old. I do file them down to a shorter length every so often ,but they do grow very fast . It's heredity all the women on my moms side have strong nails .

I think anyone dealing with food should be required to have short nails.

I have a standing appointment for a gel manicure every 2 weeks. The gel polish goes over your real nails. The polish is just like any other polish, except it hardens the nail so it doesn't break or split and the polish doesn't chip.
With that being said, it is TERRIBLE for your nails and the reason the underside of your nails can look yucky is because the nail itself is ruined by the gel polish. It's a vicious cycle. If you have a regular manicure after having gel, the polish soaks right in to your damaged porous nails and your nails are like paper and literally rip. So you keep getting the gel. Anything you need to remove with a drill is probably not so great for you, but man do my nails looks beautiful!

I have longer length natural nails, I like them filed square with rounded corners. Always polished. . I am 71 and they are my best feature, not much else on me I can be proud of .

Natural nails come in many colors, just like teeth. Some people have nails on the yellow side and there is nothing unhealthy about them.
I went to cosmotology school back in the early 70's and I am licensed to do hair and nails.
Besides press on nails, there weren't other types of fake nails back then. I learned to do different nail shapes and those long pointy nails were on the list. So, they are not new.
When I was younger, I wore my nails real long as did lots of other people. I remember the fussy old ladies complaining about them back then, along with the "hair in your eyes/face."
Some things never change. There are always some old ladies complaining about the styles of the younger generations.
I hope I am not one of them. It's just a fashion trend, and no big deal.
Everyone likes something different. There is no need to try to force your style choices on someone else.
Relax and go with the flow.

I would LOVE to have long nails--not the 2 inch stiletto kind, just some to the end of my fingertips---My nails are trash due to chemo 11 years ago---I have maybe 5 nails that can grow--the other 5, split and are ridged and just look like garbage. but don't think I could devote my $$ keeping up with long nails, real or fake.

Some interesting comments and opinions. As to the underside of the nails......I have seen women with dark debris on the underside. It's not just the yellowing of the nail bed. And, as the natural nails grow out, there is a noticable space between the cuticle and fake nail, especially if the polish color is darker. I'm sure the cost of the artificial nails is expensive. Perhaps that's why some ladies wait longer to get a fill.
I find extremely long nails to be a distraction when someone is presenting or selling something. I do remember that former host, Jill Bauer, always had beautifully manicured nails. Hers were shorter, always polished, and never had a gap between the cuticle and the nail. Professional and well groomed.
Ladies, whatever your choice......well, enjoy it. I am just stating my opinion.

@CalminHeart Especially true because it's unlikely anything the host touches will end up in my house. Far different from those same nails in a person-to-person meeting.
