Perhaps I'm too old to get with the times, but, I don't understand the appeal of long, pointy fingernails.  First of all, I don't know how these ladies are able to do regular household chores or any personal grooming.  However, the one thing that bothers me the most is seeing dirty or stain marks on the underside.  This is just not on the Q; I've noticed this on a number of women who use their hands to present items.  I would assume that a woman would make sure her hands/nails are well groomed if her hands are part of her job.  Just one more comment.......artificial nails that have grown out are not attractive, especially if the color of the polish makes it very apparant.

I don't care how YOUNG women file their nails....but ladies of a "certain age" should use some common sense.

I find certain nails to be very distracting...

I can't stand when my own fingernails go much further than my fingertips. I feel like they look ragged and get dirty too easily if they get much longer.  I don't use polish.   I cut, file and buff them every two weeks.

I agree I don't know how those women with long pointy nails get anything done.

@grandma r ........As someone that has fake nails I can tell you that the underside is not dirty, the brownish yellow coloring comes from the persons real nails.  Natural nails are not white as they appear, and a lot of people's nails or more yellow than others so as our real nails grow out the color is apparent.

Pointy nails are a fad right now, it will runs its course and will be replaced with a new trend.

Fake nails do not grow out, our real ones do.  Depending on the individual the grow out time takes 2 to 3 weeks when most go the the salon for a fill in.

I've never understood the two-inch or longer nails some women sport. It's like they're trying to handicap themselves.

@Desertdi .......... I am guessing I am a lady of a "certain age".  Just wanted to tell you that the last time I needed a new set of nails, I had the manicuriest give me long pointy nails just for fun.  In 3 weeks when I went back for my fill in I had them cut back to my regular length.

I had lots of comments on them and lots of laughs.  I personally would not keep them constantly as it was very hard to do a lot of ordinary things.

@Imaoldhippie      You and I are probably of the "same vintage".    To give you an idea, I worked for a BIG international company company in Los Angeles....and the dress code was:
