Painful Hand Dryness and Cooking

[ Edited ]

We prepare, wash and cook.

I get advanced painful dermatitis from the repeated hand washing.  Do you deal with this?

What do you use?  Thanks!Smiley Happy

@ECBG

Yes! Mine have been known to crack and bleed on occasion.

It doesn't help that the humidity where I live has been in the single digits.  I've tried using gloves, but they're not practical when I'm cooking and prepping. My dermatologist recommended CereVe lotion and it helps, but I have to leave it at my sink and apply it multiple times a day.  I buy it at Walmart where it's approx $10 for a medium sized pump bottle and I have at least one bottle in every room of my house. It has no fragrance and it's not greasy.

I know how miserable this is!  O'Keefe's Working Hands is excellent.  Also, sleeping with a thick layer of Aquaphor with cotton gloves will heal your hands.

@ECBG I get it too, but I don't need excessive washing.  I can get an eczema breakout  in between fingers when I don't follow my food intolerance list. I use cortisone cream to clear it up from the Doctor prescription strength..  Over the counter products do not work for me.

Gloves, make things worse for eczema because of the moisture. I use them for short tasks though.  I never wore a wedding band 24-7 because of it - constant irritation.

Re: Painful Hand Dryness and Cooking

I use the Philosophy hand creams.  Indulgent, but there is incentive to use them (for me) because I like the fragrance.

Otherwise I'll do nothing and the hands are a mess. I do find these creams to be healing without greasiness.

Sometimes I put the cream on and then a pair of gloves, and walk the dog.  Dual purposes - protection, but therapy.

I work outside much of the year and grub in the dirt and lift things with sharp edges.  And cook, and clean.

Latex free, powder free, disposable gloves.  Use them for everything. Your hands will clear up quick.  Protect them.  No cream can do that.

I get this and it drives me crazy. I'm allergic to many cleaning products too, so I wear the disposable gloves. They work well for me. I also use Aveno lotion daily and Aquaphor at night.
