The flatware by name brands such as Reed & Barton, Gorham, etc. isn't made like it used to be. Most of it is now made in Vietnam or China and the fairly new set I bought 4 or 5 years ago rusted on me after just 3 months. Took it back and replaced it with some that is made in the U.S. I think the name is Liberty tableware or something like that. It looks like new but it was pricey for service for 12. Around $300. or so. It's ordered online.

@Laura14 Love the simplicity of your dishes! Just found the Urbane flatware and listened to Rick's presentation while reading about it (and the reviews). Think you've selected a really nice set, Laura. While you're out with you mom, perhaps you'll be able to check this pattern for the weight before ordering it. If not, it's a great selection with your new dishes. Go for it! Enjoy forever. Hope your mom is proud of your choices.
I'm so proud of you for your new endeavors! You go enjoy your new life! It's well deserved. You've worked hard. Hugs.

@Mominohio That seems to be the consensus.
After reading everyone's comments, I am looking for 18/10 in a small set since it's mainly just me. My new place is very retro glam so I think I am taking everyone's advice and not being matchy matchy with the plates.
I love sparkle and I need to find a set with some of that to make my heart jump a bit. Thank you guys for getting me focused and narrowing me to what I really need to be looking at.
BTW, I have never seen Temptations flatware. I'll have to look that up. As much as I love Old World and I have distels from back home, I'm not sure it goes with what I am doing right now but I'd love to see it.

I wish I could really hug you right back @BirkiLady. You've been invaluable. Thank you for helping me! I will look for the Urbane while I am out.

Yes, this is a worthy investment. I received an 8 place Oneida setting for a wedding gift in 1974. The pattern has been discontinued, but I have purchased many extra pieces to bring me up to about a 20 place setting plus serve ware. I’d rather buy quality once, than do multiple purchases for items that simply make do for a little while.

My way of thinking is buy a better set rather than having to replace it every few years.
Our every day flatware is Stanley Rogers and it's 42 years old! I still have every piece too.

It's interesting -- I was just looking at my flatware the other day and thinking that I hadn't put much thought into it while purchasing it back in the early '70s. It's lasted well thru the years with a few pieces missing (I am sure the dishwasher ate them!), but otherwise they are in perfect condition. Along the way, I did purchase another set just to have extra pieces for when I have company. I think flatware is something that should be of good quality as it is something you will be using everyday for many years to come. It should be something that will give you pleasure every time you look at it and use it. Good luck in finding some that you will love.

Buying good silverware is important - and not expensive. You don't want it turning colors.

I also love your dishes, @Laura14! Striking and elegant. They are what I would think you would choose, somehow. I think they will fit your overall look to a "T", and be versatile and fun to use.

I bought Oneida 18/10 at least 25 years ago and it is still beautiful for my every day. I wish I had bought a double set as I have never found a set I like as much as this one.
My mother bought me an 18/10 service for 12 that's a little more fancy with a ton of extra pieces and serving utensils that I use with my grandmother's china.
