My streamlining/reorganizing has taken a back seat for now.

I've fallen behind on my blanket making for Project Linus, so I need to do that, especially with the holidays coming.  My dining room is cluttered with fleece blanket kits (a big mess for now).

Also, another round of gift baskets to make for my local rescue.  They are still unable to do in person auctions, so doing it all online for the second year.

I have a HUGE stash of items for creating/donating to the acution.  Heaven help me if I leave this earth before I can get rid of that pile of stuff.  I shop all year, so it is a lot.

Anyway, just wanted to check in.  It has been so hot and unpleasant I don't mind staying inside.  But, I need to get back to getting rid of things!

Enjoy reading what everyone is doing as it keeps me motivated.

@Witchy Woman - It has been really hot here all summer too and I haven't even wanted to be outside or get much done inside for that matter either. You and I both need to get back to it. I've actually started a little bit with the kids getting back to school and I'd like to at least make a pass thru every room in the house between now and the holidays, including the garage, barn, basement, etc. It seems so far off but if I even work on one room a week on my days off I'll barely be done by then.

Today, just after dark, I went out to remove any solar lights that no longer work. I knew there were quite a few, but during daylight I always think that maybe I don't remember which ones, lol. At any rate, I tossed about a dozen and discovered only 4 that work. I'm not replacing them until Spring and will cut down on the number I use, to about half, (8-10), instead of 16.

@Snicks1- I did that this spring and ended up tossing every solar light I had. I think only one of them still worked. I replaced them with some cheap ones from dollar tree. I think I noticed one isn't working now and need to get out and toss it. Thanks for the reminder, I'll try to get out after dark this week and check them out again.

Re: Declutter 2021: What have you purged today?

It's been so hot here and I've gotten tired of messing with the few flowers that I have, watering them every day, etc, so I'm letting them die off and I tossed a few of them yesterday and put the pots away in my garage (5 smallish pots). They just had annuals in them. I still have to take down my 3 hanging pots, hubby can reach those for me at another time.

Tossed a couple of plastic ice cream buckets and a plastic coffee can. I save these and we use them for projects around the house, especially in the summer, and then just toss them when they're too dirty or broken to use. For free they come in really handy andI just store them on a shelf in the garage.

Hubby tossed 2 ratty, stained work t-shirts. We went thru some of my younger son's clothes, he's grown a lot this past year and doesn't have a lot that fits well. We set aside 5 tops, a hoodie and a pair of slippers to donate. I'm donating a skort.

Happy Monday~

Last week I did papers, a little at a time, a few files at a time. Got rid of a few things, but mostly realized I've been pretty caught up on that over these past years, as there was not much to toss. Still tossed anything not needed. I will say that my file, (double drawer), is still pretty full, and I suffer a little from "save this info just in case." I only hold taxes the suggested 7 years. But other things like my health/doc records, I keep. Also our condo association...I have it all, and I've been here years. We do sometimes need proof of something, or need to refer to something, but dang it's a lot of paper & I can't seem to let go of any of it. I like to see our financial/budget history and other things. Am still noodling that one and may go deeper into that file once more.

That said...I'm up to date. Man, papers are the most boring to do. 😝

Not sure I have a declutter agenda this week, though my new habits are that I'm always looking at things to toss, as I go along my days. This week is more about getting some home updates done. They are supposed to install my new sliders on Thursday. Of course that's the day we're supposed to get pouring rain....ugh. Makes that job messier for them and me! But likely they'll go ahead with it anyway. Also have to get another quote for a split heating system to be installed this fall. So...not decluttering but it's why, also, I'm also getting things in order...to be ready to make improvements.

I have also been moving things around, making spaces better, and refreshed. Still in process...and of course that will evolve as we move more into fall.

Happy decluttering~

I'm starting to think that I didn't do all that I could have, or should have while I was home during this pandemic. I will be headed back to work mid September. I know once I'm back I'll be exhausted and I won't want to face any of the things I had been doing. I don't want to start playing catch up now because that's when you make hasty decisions. I've become so comfortable waking when I want, sleeping when I want,  going out if I want, cooking, cleaning etc. Now I don't want to return to work either.  I packed on pounds and I'm in no mood to walk in there and hear all the "You gained weight KBeans" comments. 😆 I have no idea how I will get up any earlier than 8 when I have to be at work at 7:30.

I'd like to purge this job from my life, but I can't. I still have to put in some more time. I was glad I had this chance to

experience what retirement can be. (Well a weird version of it anyway) I liked it.

Speaking of shortages, I know that I continue to see shortages where I live too. Like you all are seeing, some things have disappeared for months and months and some are gone and have yet to be seen again.

That's partly why I'm holding onto more than I normally would. I never used to worry about replacing something if I got rid of it and then needed/wanted it again, but now I wonder if I will be able to get a replacement for something if I need it. Especially for essentials like shoes, clothes, kitchen items, etc.

I know that I've been super spoiled and that many generations before me often did without and made do, and I would if I had to, BUT, why get rid of something only to have to do without it in the future? Sometimes I just feel better keeping something extra.

I know it sounds crazy when we obviously have more than enough, but then I see all the empty shelves at the store too, so I'm not sure what to think.

@rnmom I don't find it "crazy" at all to feel as you do. And give yourself a break during these troubled times. (kinda like the effect the Great Depression had on our grandparents and parents) If you hold onto more now because of that, totally understandable. And your in and out system is good...much better than all in. Ok to replace items you still use with newer ones after the old one goes. And last..."every little thing DOES count!" It's by baby steps, consistently, big results come and new systems of upkeep are developed. Smiley Happy

Re: Declutter 2021: What have you purged today?

One more closet down, one remaining.

Today was mostly dresses and some special occasion clothes. Still too hot to try on dresses, but I did it anyway. Some things bought a little more time in my closet when they probably should not have, but I will revisit again around April, and they are taking up very little space.

Sad to see a few things go, as they were superior fabrics and trims that no longer exist, at least not where I shop.

Pulled a few more pants from the sell pile to a donate bag. I have 5 large trash bags to go to Goodwill this weekend. I hope they are prepared to take fall/ winter clothes now. I want the bags gone before Goodwill decides to cut off donations as they did earlier this year.

It has been years since I have purged more than a bag or two of clothes per season, so this has been long overdue. I will not go through the bins of casual clothes until probably October when there will be another round of donations and trashed clothes.

Re: Declutter 2021: What have you purged today?

I posted about 10-12 days ago that I was going to donate some decorative outdoor items once I had cleaned them up. Well, I did that yesterday, and bluntly put, they were not worth donating, lol, so they went out with this morning's trash pick up.

@Snicks1  What I like about your post is that you realize they were not worth donating. Do you ever come across people who can't, don't or won't realize their junk is just that, junk? That makes me insane!  Sad to say; I know people who will not give anything good away even to people they know! It is held until it is no longer of use, out of fashion, broken, stale or useless.
On this forum, I have not read anything like this. I think we can distinguish between what can be donated and what is  trash!

Today, I trashed 2 silicone spurtles that were shedding and I saw a piece in the eggs that I scrambled. I checked the 3 pieces that I have and only 1 was intact.

Re: Declutter 2021: What have you purged today?

@KBEANS, thank you. And yes, I often see things that have been left for drop-off that for obvious reasons, will be tossed out rather than put out for resale. I try to not do that, lol, it's really not that difficult. If it's something that I would not want, in its current condition, then in the trash it goes. There are signs up stating they can't accept electrical appliances such as ranges, refrigerators, etc, as well as used mattresses and such, yet I often see those items sitting there on the occasions when I drop-off after hours. Just makes me shake my head.
