Matronly....my Grandma and Great Grandma come to mind. Neither colored their hair....wore house coat dress with ankle socks and slipper house shoes! My Grandma started wearing pants and never went back to the house dress. Never did their nails with polish.
I began the so called "matronly" thing already....the older I get the more things I need to cover or hide. I paint my nails and color my hair. Never did the house coat dress thing LOL!
I am getting close to 60 and without hair dye and make up I am positive I would look alot older aka matronly no matter what I did with my genetics.
HSN does offer some lines that are trendy but they are not for me...I tried some and the fabric was bad or the jeans just to tight. I can't do that anymore with my issues.
My Mom always said "powder and paint makes a girl what she ain't" LOL She did her nails and colored her hair until the end
Lot's of jewelry too.
We do the best we can as we age. No faux tans either come to think of it...that one really is the thing I notice most on Q and HSN. But out in the real world I don't see that. Heck I am snow white...oh well...I have rosacea so sun is not my thing.
I also stopped caring what anyone else thought...my feet require Vionics so that's what I wear....and I am sure they look matronly to many.

I just want to add that matronly is often in how you WEAR the clothes rather than the clothes themselves. Something sticks with me from some years ago. At a family funeral, one of my cousins complimented me on what I was wearing. Her sister was wearing almost the same khaki shirtwaist dress as me, and said half jokingly "We're wearing the same thing, but you accessorize a lot better than me." I realized that she was absolutely right. She looked bland, but I had added a different belt, a scarf, the right shoes and coordinating jewelry. It made all the difference in the world.

If you think this way about QVC's fashions, I'm wondering why you're on QVC's fashion forum?

Exactly. To be honest I don't know any women who look to home shopping channels for cutting edge fashion. I actually don't know anyone who shops here except me. In my opinion, the demographic that is most likely to outfit themselves from QVC or HSN, is the older ladies like myself. As much as these two companies try to seem current, I would be extremely surprised if anyone in their twenties or thirties would find anything they liked here.
HSNs fashions often look cheesy to me. I find more that suits my taste at Qvc.

I think you can definitely age yourself by the clothes you wear and there are some designers at the Q that will help you out with that. Not all, just some.

Just curious, but did anyone else get a survey on fashion from HSN about a month ago? It was very long - took 15-20 minutes to complete it. They asked what other stores I purchased clothing from and how much I spent. What I disliked most about what they presented, how much I watched the channel, what would make me shop there more.
Then I received a generic letter back from the president saying that they needed to improve in many ways. Since then, I appear to be getting more coupons.

You don't understand QVC's business model. Just guessing, but I think the average age of their customers is probably around 55 to 60 years old.
Those women aren't going to want to buy trendy and faddish things that Twentysomething women would buy .... too high a return rate!
Come to think of it ...... I'm not sure women in their 20's even buy clothes from shopping channels! Anyway, each shopping network carefully scrutinizes what sells and what doesn't .... and will go from there.
And BTW ..... do you really think the majority of HSN's clothing is "fashionable"? Really?

Yes @cindyNC , I received the survey. I have bought very little fashion from HSN but they did send me a survey and a letter back from the President of the Company about doing better.

The root of this issue, isn't it just age shaming? Looking older, matronly--a fault, flaw shameful thing? Isn't that what it's all about?

I think there are many factors involved in whether an article of clothing looks matronly, and it's not always the clothing itself.
