You have my sympathy.  I would just take it in to repair.  So very frustrating.  Good luck.

My laptop, which just recently reached its average life limit, has been doing strange things for weeks. Lots of annoying techical issues.  They all disappear, but then they come back a few hours or days later.  Very annoying.

I'm thinking of bypassing repair and adding what that would cost to whatever a new laptop will cost.  Just haven't decided on a laptop.

Google the error and you'll find all kinds of answers. That's what I do with every error I get.

I also do exactly this.   There is ALWAYS a ton of information out there.   I figure it's the best way to go because I can find information among millions of others, including what's been reported on the Microsoft site and elsewhere.

I doubt it has anything to do with the pop up wanting you to upgrade to Win10. Do you have Win7 or Vista?

Here is one Google result for Windows 8.1 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/high-cpu-usage-by-com-surrog...

This is an extreme solution. Windows is having a problem with the System 32 files.
