Insurance customer service.  I'm not sure how I lasted 15 years.

If I ever had to go back to work, put me in a cubicle without a phone so I don't have to talk to anyone and I'll push papers.

I hear that!  I worked for a huge national insurance company for almost 10 years.  Had to get out of there, as it was killing me.  I say that literally.  I was getting myself so sick.  That company is so horrible.

It's a shame, as I was making awesome money, had a lot of vacation time (I travelled the world back then), and could have set myself up really well if I could have held out and retired from there.  Still ended up with almost $70,000, between my  401K (converted to my IRA) and my retirement settlement.    But I just couldn't take it any longer.

After I gave notice I received many 'congratulations' cards from the others there.   I learned a lot and was licensed in 13 states so that's not bad, but that company sukked bad.

I too worked for a huge insurance company (think 2008 and to big to fail) and I hated it also. Made it 8 1/2 years before getting laid off. I was so happy to get laid off. I hated almost everything about the joint. The drive was horrible, we were micromanaged to death, constant drama among employees, no raises since 2010 and a meesley bonus, if they could even call it that, everything we did was monitored and we had to account for every minute of every day on a spreadsheet. Don’t miss it at all.

@SeaMaiden  I worked restaurant work for 20 years. It is backbreaking work and I try to treat all service workers with respect because I know hard it is.

You come up with some great topics. I enjoy reading them.

The worst job I ever had was working in a nursing home. I sometimes look back and don’t know how I made it through those 2 years.

It was in the accounting department of a corporation, rows of desks, four across filling the room.  The only sounds were the typewriters clicking.  Absolutely no talking!  We had to type out the W-2' s for the whole corporation.

I was 17 or 18 and I can remember screaming in my head, "I can't stand this another minute." I could not tolerate sitting still for that long each day.

Had another office job where the owner threw hissy fits and a shoe went right past my face.   Worked in a glass factory rotating jobs or filling in for the regulars.  I replaced the regular who, due to the difficulty of the job, had been to the emergency room NINE times for shards of glass breaking and cutting her.   I had nightmares each night.  I wasn't there long.

Where I work now, I am treated wonderfully.  Will be retiring shortly.

15 years old (special working papers) as a grocery store cashier for the full $1.50/per hour. Remember, 50 years ago there were no scanners, no whiz bang computerized cash registers keying in amount the cutomer gave us and telling us the change to give back. Long hours, awful bosses, and looking back the few cr@ppy jobs after that I had, until I was educated and established, none were worse than that.

Picking green beans as a teenager.  Wet aphids in the morning.  Hot weather and Smelly outhouses.  Yecch!

My worst job was delivering the weekend editions of the newspaper.  I am NOT a morning person, but I had to be at the district warehouse by 5:00 A.M.  Then drive/walk my route during all types of weather.

All in all, not as bad as my friend. She had to request her vacation in January, and asked for 2 weeks in September.  By the end of January, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and told that she needed a mastectomy.  Her supervisor strongly requested that she wait until her September vacation!  She quit, of course.  This would probably be illegal now, but wasn't back in the "good old days"!

Working for a freight forwarding company training with a different person everyday.

Found out later my boss was trying to leave for another job the whole time I was there.

The last girl training me yelled at me everyday, in a room full of 40 people.

I was so nervous I began experiencing numbness in my arms and legs.

I was relieved when they fired me! A little pride wounded because I'd never been fired before.

1 year later the company fired half of the employees.

A few months after that, the company went under.

Ok, now this is really the best (and meanest on my part):

Hubby and I ran into the manager that fired me at Walmart. He smiled and said Hi.

I looked at Hubby and said...That's the bleep bleep who fired me.

That made me LOL!  Good for you - no one should have to feel like that at work, ever!

I too worked in a nursing home.  But I was young!  I think when you're 17 you can tolerate anything.  Funny, I don't remember thinking "I hate going to work".  When you're 62, ANY work is hard to go to - and that's what I'm dealing with now.  2.5 years to go!

I have had several episodes that I can describe that were awful, but I can't say any of them were the worst job ever.  One in particular was in 1981, I worked for an insurance agency - mostly men, and I disclosed to my boss the following conversation:

***, can I talk to you? I have something to tell you.

Boss:  what, you're pregnant?

me:  Yes.

Boss:  ****, so is ****** (another female coworker).

Later that day, he said "I hope you're not planning on breastfeeding because your kid will starve."

Can you believe that????   Good ol 80's......
