I always bought a lot of clothing and shoes, but household items and decor really became  "like a store" when I started shopping at QVC.  Don't get me started about the drawers and cupboards I have filled with Philosophy shower gels, body creams, etc.  Also, Perlier brand  plus several brands of skincare items.  That is a  real worry too if my kids have to toss or ? all of that.

Anyone on the younger side, don't save stuff for your kids as they won't want anything.  One child has a large house and wants nothing.  The other would take everything, but is already cramped for space in a rental.

I can so relate to the OP.  Years ago I entertained family and friends a lot and threw dinner parties all the time. I was very into it.  I taught myself to be a very good cook and hostess.  Over the years I really fell out of entertaining and now I have all the stuff I accumulated and don't know what to do with it. Large platters, multiple glass pitchers, glasses of every type for drinks I don't even drink, huge serving pieces, wine decanters.  The list goes on.  I hate to get rid of it and nobody I know would want it.  It's good stuff too!  I always bought all my serving pieces and dishes in classic white porcelain so they would never go out of style.  Maybe someday I'll throw a big old dinner party who knows.

Has anyone ever donated clothes to a Dress For Success organization?

@Grouchomarx

That's what got me started, or I should say restarted, as I've been purging a bit at a time for years.

I opened my china cabinet and saw stacks and stacks of dishes, chargers, cups, serving pieces.

Nothing has moved from that cabinet in 10 years or more.

Same as you...big dinner parties, no paperware EVER, glasses, dishes, pitchers, all the finery.

Now, unused.

As I mentioned above, I have a scheduled pickup on July 10, so I've committed to getting more of THAT clutter removed.

I know that there will be no more parties or entertaining like I used to, so...why prolong the sadness Cat Sad

@morganjen

I did years ago.  There was a group that took donations within driving distance.

Now, I have no idea if there are any and, I simply don't want to travel to them with piles of clothing.

Most of my clothing goes to Salvation Army or a local thrift.  Yes, they resell it, but I just want it OUT.

I'm sure there are other groups that take professional women's clothing, but I couldn't name them.

Aw, don't feel sad.  You have wonderful memories. I do too.  We lost a lot of friends over the years, and my family cannot be bothered to travel to where I live (I always go to them) and I dearly miss the thrill of throwing a great party and making people feel good, enjoy great food and drinks, and laugh.  I do wish I had a fuller life, but I try to be happy with what I have and take pride knowing that I could do it up all over again if I ever got the chance to.

Yes, we have lost friends or they split up, moved away or don't want to drive for a gathering.

I have one older sis and two nieces on either coast, our parents are gone.

I too sometimes wish I had a "fuller" life, but, you are right, I have nice memories and people always looked forward to coming to my house Cat Happy

For me, entertaining made time stand still.  I would hear the laughter and see my friends/family.  People lost in conversation, then seeking me out to say how much FUN it all was!

Then, the cleanup Cat Very Happy

Those were the days....

Now, it's dinner for two in a quiet house.

No complaints, life changes.

You're really taking me back to my glory days!  I had such a sense of satisfaction knowing I made people enjoy themselves and pulled it all off without a hitch.  I do NOT miss the cleanup!  Lord, that was a whole other event in and of itself.

Are there churches in your area,that hold suppers, or that type of thing?

When you lose some one you L~O~V~E, that Memory of them, becomes a TREASURE.
