Personally, and I'll bet most ppl won't agree with me, I think her mom's an idiot.

She obviously is very successful in spite of her name.  Why burden a child with a name like that - it's cruel.

is a hateful thing, to do something like this to a child. Not everyone can overcome  something like this. It could have had the opposite effect, and put that child into a shell

I agree that her mother is an idiot. However it seems that she enjoyed being bullied otherwise she could have just called herself Mari....simple.  I do admire her for being a strong woman and obtaining her goals.

She's in the right field.  My father is a doctor in education and some of the names parents have blessed their children with are quite memorable.  His favorite was Placenta because the mom thought it was pretty when she heard the doctor say it after giving birth to her daughter.

It is an accomplishment indeed.  I know it said she left an unstable home at 15 which means the Mother may have had problems for decades.  I wonder where she is now and how her life as been.  The Dr. worked hard and applause to her for the degree and not changing her name.
