Re: 🐢 TURTLE WATCHING 🐢

I have some that visit too.  I would say one, but last year I was removing the leaves in the area of my yard where the Solomon's Seal are.  There's also a large area with periwinkle that I normally do not bother removing the leaves.  That, apparently, is their love nest.  There were at least 3 in there and it wasn't for a business meeting.

Usually, once I see one and it realizes I've spotted it, he hightails it out of there as soon as I turn my back.  I did try to bribe one with a dead cicada this year.  I found him in the middle of the yard.  Usually, they're along the fringes.  So, I figured he was cicada hunting.  In fact, he was already eating one when I broght him one, so I just dropped it there for the 2 for 1 special.

@cheriere  That is such a cute turtle, Cheriere Smiley Very HappyHeart!  I love its little legs and face!  I really like turtles- I have little turtle statues made of carved stones and shells on top of my dresser and a medium sized carved wooden turtle that I got at a flea market.  I like how turtles take it easy and go at their own pace.  Super cute photos and I love that little turtle picked you as a new buddy!

I've always loved turtles too!😃❤️

I was really happy to see him coming.  He's the first one I've seen this year too.  I tried not to get super close because I didn't want to scare him, but of course I just had to lol.  I was really shocked by how fast he walked away too.  Fastest little turtle I ever saw!😂

@cheriere  hahaha that turtle must've had fast little legs! I've never seen a fast turtle before Smiley LOL. So cute!! I bet this was the turtle's first photo shoot- work it, turtle! I love the photo of it turning its head to look right at you Smiley Very Happy Absolutely adorable! Made my day! Smiley HappyHeart

Re: 🐢 TURTLE WATCHING 🐢

My dog spotted one while on a walk last week and just smelled it. The next time we went by the same spot she smelled there again though the turtle was gone.

@Icegoddess

I LOVED ❤️ reading your post!😂

A love nest indeed lol.  I've never seen any in a "group" or coupled setting like that!  They do tend to hang out on the edges of our lawn leading into the woods too.  I always figured it was because we have a pond and a small stream that run alongside.  I haven't been to the pond in awhile.  That could very well be where they vacation in the summertime.😃

Sounds just like what Ruby does whenever she's encountered a turtle.😃❤️

Of course, they go into their shell, but she's persistent thinking if she scratches the top of the shell it'll come out lol.  My dad's always nervous she'll get bitten by one.  I don't think this type of turtle is really a biter though.

Re: 🐢 TURTLE WATCHING 🐢

In Japan, where I was born, turtles symbolize good fortune and long life. In fact, over there they keep turtles in their ponds. My mom had little turtle figurines🐢  all over the house when us kids were growing up.☺️
