This morning on our walk, I noticed a big branch that had broken off a tree and was laying on the sidewalk.  As we got closer I realized that it was a magnolia tree and the branch that broke off had a beautiful flower.  I had never seen one up close and personal like that. What a beauty!!!

I was going to try to get close to see if they had a fragrance but I noticed bees nearby and decided to skip the sniffing.  Anyone know if magnolias have a fragrance?

I love magnolias and they do have a wonderful scent. The trees are so magnificent!

Such a pretty flower.  Perhaps the wind was a bit too strong.

@Mz iMac  Thank you!  I thought, surely something that pretty would have a lovely scent.

@Pezzie  I have a large Magnolia in my back yard.  They are beautiful trees and they have a lovely fragrance.  Some days I can sit on my back deck and smell the fragrance from the tree.

@happilyretiredgirl How wonderful for you!  Big trees like the magnolias are non existent in southern AZ, so it's been a big treat to be around them.  I didn't realize I missed seeing big trees until I saw them again this week.

@Pezzie The Magnolia is our state tree here in Mississippi.   One of my friends cut one down and was promptly fined as he did not get permission to eradicate the tree from his property off the square in Oxford, MS.
