Oh yes, he's far, far away from any cars.  He headed off to the pond way out in the woods.😃❤️

What a beautiful turtle!  I adore these little creatures.

Many years back I had a large compost pile which, in the summertime, was full of watermelon rind and pineapple tops.

One afternoon I noted the pile moving on the edges and there was a big ol' Box Turtle munching on the fruit pile.

I just had to laugh...it must have been a feast for him/her.

Oh I'll bet he did love eating those rinds!😃❤️

When I taught science lab, kids were always bringing in different little creatures they'd find.  I'm still not sure how they managed to sneak them onto the school bus, but we sure had a lot terrariums filled with different turtles lol.

Re: 🐢 TURTLE WATCHING 🐢

Turtles have long been some of my favorite animals. So much so that my hubby took me to the Galapagos Islands on our honeymoon so I could visit the giant Galapagos tortoises. I've owned many turtles over the years, but these beauties are my absolute favorite.

Re: 🐢 TURTLE WATCHING 🐢

Turtles need protein along with fruity treats! and they like a cool "oasis"

This little guy always visited my Mom's backyard in summer.

In the pics, he had just enjoyed chowing down some lobster chunks

then  a drink and a  quick dip in the pool!

@cheriere  That is such a cute turtle, Cheriere Smiley Very HappyHeart!  I love its little legs and face!  I really like turtles- I have little turtle statues made of carved stones and shells on top of my dresser and a medium sized carved wooden turtle that I got at a flea market.  I like how turtles take it easy and go at their own pace.  Super cute photos and I love that little turtle picked you as a new buddy!

I love turtles, too.

A couple of years ago, we were on the way to an evening appointment.

We were driving down a two-way street in a rather busy area.

It was during the Summer.

Traffic was slowing down, and we were looking to see what was happening.

As we got closer to seeing what was in the road, I asked my husband to stop the car, as it was safe enough to do it.

We saw that there was a large turtle trying to cross from one side of the road to the other.

My husband was like, "What are you going to do..?"

Me:  "Help it across the road so that someone doesn't hit it."

So I get out of the car and get up close enough to it to find out that it wasn't your ordinary Box Turtle, but that it was a large Snapping Turtle! Yikes!

I wasn't about to pick him/her up, but I was trying to gently herd it up across the road and it actually started to move rather fast and away from me, and it was able to climb up the curb and get into the grassy area by the side of the road.

There were bushes and a bit of a marshy area near there and I think that's where it was headed.

@cheriere    thank you for your pics too!      i think these turtles may be very old.

when we were kids my sister and i would get up practically at dawn in the summer and walk in the woods behind the house on a grassy path.   never failed to bump our toe on a turtle or two lurking in the wet  grass.  we would bring them back to the yard and wait for them to peek back out  of their shells.   after a while they scampered back to the woods. way beyond the woods was a creek and thats where they lived.   one memory that gets me a bit misty. just the sheer joy of summer mornings and discovering the wildlife.

not long ago a kid from my grade school txt me a pic of a turtle burrowing in his garden. he still lives right beside same the creek.
