@CareBears Are they any different than any other large corporation? The "haves" will come out smelling like roses while the "have nots" line up for unemployment.

It's unfortunate that to sustain their competitiveness they started bringing in cheap junk. I used to love Sears... DH loved Craftsman. And the appliances were excellent.
Then it seemed suddenly that everything became so cheaply made.... no leather shoes, corners cut on clothing, not made well and Craftsman... what happened to them?? Yes, they'll replace a broken piece... but they break ALL the time AND they recommend that the tools are not for professionals! So they feel that a home garage mechanic won't crank down on these tools like a professional? Craftsman is now a joke because It's become junk.
I believe it's those reasons that have stopped the public from shopping at Sears. Sears used to be quality you can trust but unfortunately, the junk they sell in the store is also being sold on Sears.com. Those preferring to shop on-line could do so if they wanted to....

It is karma--weren't they the ones who tried to shove the dismal "Kardashian klothing" line down our throats a few years ago?
Welp @Colinka I guess you weren't around when the Q was riding the Kardashian coat tails either.

@sandraskates@Moonchilde I was at valley fair/Westfield last week. In the 20+ years I've been going to this mall, I've never seen a slow time. It used to be called the "yuppie mall" back in the day and has always been busy. I think being so close to Silicon Valley....they didn't suffer from the recession like other malls did.
I can't believe they're going through another remodel! They do this regularly, and the last remodel completely changed what is called a "food court". This area is so comfortable and the newer takeout areas around it have great food. My lawyer has an office nearby, and this is now where all the staff prefer to eat.
but...as much as I like all the stores and the food court...the traffic in the area has really increased! I used to go there once a month and now I'm reluctant to deal with crowds and traffic, as they are at this time.

That's why they are closing stores and probably did not want to put any money in stores that were being closed. Sears may not be around for too much longer. I was disappointed that K-Mart closed so many stores (Sears owns K-Mart). And, Amazon buying Whole Foods takes the cake! ![]()

Even their appliance repair service is contracted out now.

Their appliance repair was always, always a problem for me. Even their expensive prices for home services were at least 2 x more than other contractors. That's my experience with Sears home services.

@Kachina624 No, but since the OP mentioned Sears and I have my own personal experience as to why I believe Sears is getting what they deserve, I chose to only mention Sears.

I can believe that, the only time I go into Sears is when I park on that side of the mall (because the parking lot on that side is always empty) and I walk through Sears to get the other stores or the food court. It's always like a ghost town in there. I haven't shopped in a Sears since my girls were young....and they are in their 30's now.

@september I don't go up to San Jose all that often, but I will now make a special effort in future. I miss a "real" mall. I can't get "into" Del Monte for some reason - doesn't appeal. Interesting about the Valley Fair food court. The other local malls I've been in, the food courts are only a quarter the size I'm used to.
