My family took Marie Antoinette's quote, "Let Them Eat Cake",  VERY SERIOUSLY....    (even tho that's not quite what she meant)

We had Fig Newtons

My Mom did not like us (kids) eating sweets. So Fig Newtons was the only cookie she would buy. On the other hand - my Dad bought Ruth's Oatmeal cookies by Archway.  He would be lucky if there were any cookies left for him.

We had fig newtons at our house and I also remember she would buy whole milk and mix it with powdered milk to make it go further...five kids can go thru a lot of milk.

But the best thing was sometimes we would come home from school and she had made donuts...she would be frying them and sprinkling with powdered sugar, so good!

Only if we bought them to bake something with.  I can't really remember, it wasn't banana pudding, my Mom never made that.  Maybe for crust for a pie.🤷🏻‍♀️

No, sadly.  My mom never bought treats. Once in a while a bag of cheap nabisco cookies.  She did make jello a lot.  We had fruit, fro dessert. She bought the basics  we always had meat, veggie and salad and a starch for dinner, sandwich for lunch  and fruit. Half the problem was I had two brothers who never minded and ate everything up in one day. She tried hiding, but they were too swift. I remember making the banana pudding with them when I was in jr high. My mom didn't bake either, but I did. I didn't even have pizza til I was in my 20's.  We didn't dine out either.

@Bonkers1  We sometimes had them, but the staple in our home was Stella D'oro anisette toast.

No, but the only way we could get our kids to keep  quiet in church  was to bring a box of vanilla wafers with us.
