Flannel is way better then the microfiber. Only cheap flannel sheets pill.
Buy some flannel sheets from LL Bean or Lands End made in Portugal. They are nice soft comfy sheets with no piling. They last for years not one season.
I just put mine on the bed last night.
Run your flannel sheets thru a wash with vinegar first to set color & prevent piling. Use a natural laundry detergent or at least use less of a regular detergent.

For poster Cookie - - for your problem of static and charged electrical shocks when you tough lamps, etc......you desperately need a HUMIDIFIER - perhaps two if you have 2 level home. At the beginning of colder temps - start the humidifier on low and increase output as the days/nights get colder and air gets dryer. Different sheets aren't the answer.

@petepetey. You haven't opened them but they seem too heavy? How in the world can you tell how heavy they are? I much prefer the cozy softness of the microfiber and if you take them out of the package, youll find they're not heavy at all.

@petepetey We've done flannel forever, but I've not been abel to find good ones. I did purchase the microfleece TSV last week. They've been washed and folded, but haven't put them on the bed yet.
They are indeed thick, laying on the shelf in the closet, they are double the height folded of all my flannel sheets. They will go on the bed early next week, I hope I won't be sorry.
My DH's complaint has been the softness of other sheets, at this point they are plenty soft. In terms of too hot, we have a heated mattress pad that we can turn down - hope that solves any problems there.
The pilling is a big issue for me. I do hope these will never do that.
All I can say for now is, I'm crossing my fingers they are a success at our house.

I just bought Land's End flannel sheets and love them. I'm only using the top sheet right now, but may put the fitted sheet on, too, when it's consistently cold at night. It feels so nice and soft. I just love it. I wouldn't buy a cheap set though, because they probably wouldn't last very long. I've had flannel sheets that lasted until I just got tired of them and donated them still in good condition.
I like cotton sheets. I have no interested in microfleece sheets because they're polyester and would be too hot.

Flannel for me. We didn’t care for the micro fleece sheets at all. Used them a few times last year after I bought them and donated them to Goodwill.

I have both flannel and fleece sheets. I like the flannel, but the fleece is way too hot, even on a cold night. My husband hates them. Unfortunately, I couldn't return them to QVC in time, so I had to donate them.
