I can not stand him! He is so arrogant and obnoxious. I feel so sorry for all of the contestants who have to appear with him. I honestly think they should all be invited back and given another chance. I can't believe he holds down a real job, I don't know how anyone could work with him.

Do you think all Ken Jenning's opponents should have been given another chance, too. Talk about arrogant! He was the epitome of arrogance, imo.

This guy is intelligent, clever, and smart (not always the same thing) and is doing well. I applaud him! I actually am enjoying watching this week. Maybe if he's still there in 9 weeks (or however long Jennings was on) I'll change my mind. Smile

Could you give me an example of what he has done that is obnoxious and arrogant? I honestly haven't seen it and sometimes a second set of eyes can help point something out to me. My father worked with Asians for many years so maybe I am used to their no nonsense approach to things. They were there to get the work done and leave. I could see how some people would find that type of personality a little dry but not obnoxious or arrogant.

I honestly do not know why someone should be invited back simply because they weren't smart enough either in knowledge or strategy to beat someone the first time though.

I loved Ken and I agree IMO, he was much more arrogant.

I also agree very much with the bolded statement. I have seen many people who were intelligent when it came to the answers alone but lost because they weren't clever enough with their strategy and betting. It takes the whole package and this guy has got it.

I always root for the underdog so not likely to root for him. Having said that, I got one right tonight that he didn't know and felt smug for about 2 seconds. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

We were all calling out answers trying to see if we could correctly answer before the contestants....didn't happen that often tonight since that guy's pretty smart.

ITA with the bolded statement.

That's true, and I certainly think the racist comments on the internet are wrong. I guess my problem is that I like the gentle style used by most contestants and not his play-to-win personality. I wonder how successful he is in the workplace, because I don't think his style would win many people over.

I am a huge Jeopardy fan. I have tried out 3 times and passed the test but getting picked by their lottery system is one of luck. My dream is being a Jeopardy contestant.

I qualified for "College Week" Jeopardy many moons ago at the WTMJ studio in Milwaukee. There was a "lottery system" in play at that level also. But I did get a "Watch Jeopardy on WTMJ" t-shirt, Woo-hoo. I think I would have wilted under the presence of television lighting and the audience.

As for Mr. Chu, he has found a winning strategy within the framework of the rules. I think it's fun to watch the really great players. Remember Ken Jennings?

Lol!! In all honesty I think I would too. It is one thing to answer a good percentage at home, quite another to do it in front of an audience and knowing millions are watching. I am also not very gifted in math so I would probably lose final Jeopardy by miscalculating by $3. How embarrassing that would be.

Re: Jeopardy contestant Arthur Chu

I admire his wide range of knowledge and as a frequent Jeopardy watcher, I find his choosing all the high-paying questions when he has the chance to be very cagy. Too bad if that makes him unpopular with those who seem to think contestants have to start at the top of the column and move south.

Besides giving himself a chance to earn more and do it quickly, his technique has the added benefit of throwing the others off and unless there's some rule (and the people I know who have been on the show say it's totally legal and ethical) he's smart, not smug.

I'm even willing to bet we're going to see future players follow his example more and more.

Re: Jeopardy contestant Arthur Chu

How can you judge someone so easily that you do not truly know? Many people appear smug, aloof, etc. for all types of reasons--shyness, poor social skills, Asperger's, or just plain misperception on the part of the other person. Whatever the case, I hope you are never judged so harshly by strangers.

Really? I love him. He is playing smart and I see no smugness at all. I watch Jeopardy every single night and if I am not home I DVR it and he is one of my favorite players. He is quiet and non celebratory but I don't find that smug.

I agree, he's reserved. I like reserved.
