@queendiva The ONLY reason that I have a landline is that Comcast, in my area, actually give a less expensive rate on a "triple play" package (cable/internet and landline) than they do on a cable and internet only package. A lot of people I know have a landline because of this pricing.

@FlyersGirl I was going to say the exact same thing! I am not much of a cellphone user, I have a TracFone, so using it as my main phone would cost me more money ( I get phones with the 1500 minutes that last the year).

@queendiva   The reason I like to have our landline is for a couple reasons. First, it is part of our package with having our internet.

Also, if ever a business or anyone needs to get ahold of us and don’t have our cell numbers they have the landline number to call. Here’s another example: we live out in the country and a couple times packages have been delivered to a wrong address. The person can see our name on the package, look up our number in the phone book and call. What would they do instead?

I’ve also said before that with many people getting rid of landlines we aren’t able to look up people’s addresses or numbers to get ahold of them. I had several former classmates whose parents had died and I wanted to send cards. Couldn’t find addresses so couldn’t send cards. I felt bad about that.

I don't think it's anybody's business why people choose to have a landline and cell phone. I get lots of spam calls on my cell phone and landline.
There are many areas of the US that have extremely poor cell reception or no cell reception.

Re: I'm Getting Really Annoyed

The calls that I get that are political, it is in their caller ID information.

We were getting up to 30 calls a day. I checked on the numbers that I could. MANY were about my car warranty, they wanted me to renew it. Also, my husband went to a home show and they asked him to fill out his information, now we get a call from Bathfitters several times a week.

But now they are getting so sneaky. They put in a weird phone # or they call before 9 AM and after 9 PM.

Recently 2 college students in the area were charged.

Re: I'm Getting Really Annoyed

It seems like almost none of the calls that come through here show actual valid caller ID info.    They will often have the name of a city.   I've seen some that the number on them CID is just a 'V' followed by a whole bunch of numbers - like way more than a phone# has.   Also, I've seen 'Unavailable' or 'Toll Free Call' or 'TPC Research'.  I assume that last one is a poll company.

There should be something the phone companies can do to make it where people/companies cannot use fake #s and fake names for caller ID.   That is so fundamental that I just don't get why that cannot be fixed.    I can only assume (there I go again, assuming) there there is money going into pockets somewhere along the line.

Because there are a few people left that don't want to walk around all day, every day with a cell phone in their pocket or hand.

Re: I'm Getting Really Annoyed

I get just as many calls on my cell as my landline.  My husband will not use a cell phone so we must have a land line.  I don't give my cell phone number out....I get calls from all over and as far as Egypt

I have a landline because it is cheaper to have on than to drop it, it is that easy

Re: I'm Getting Really Annoyed

I haven't had a land line since last October.  I don't get  calls like this anymore.  I used to be one of the people who insisted I had to keep a landline

occasionally, I get an unwanted call on my cell, but can block it
