My husband and I were going to dinner last Sunday. We were held up by traffic as it was down to a slow crawl. When we finally got to cross a major intersection - we saw why there was a jam. A Hummer had managed (don't know how) to take out a bus stop bench/kiosk, run up a short berm and turn on it's side. It had just happened and looked pretty bad.
Yesterday, I was coming home and saw an emergency light at an intersection I was approaching. Well, there were 4-5 fire trucks stopped and they closed one way enteirely and only one lane (my lane was open to travel). When I got to the place where the action was, some brand new large SUV was upside down in the middle of the road and one firetruck had some damage. There was debris everywhere and I could not imagine how this was done except that the SUV didn't hear a siren and pull over - they must have collided.
Why do these things happen just before the holidays. People just have to slow down and calm down Every year it seems to get worse. I plan to stay home and keep off the streets.

Texting always comes to mind when I see this kind of stuff. Poeple are just nut jobs.

I agree - people are stressed out, but it's not worth your life or someone elses! I went out for a couple of items this morning, came home, and don't plan on going out until Monday after all the crazy end of year sales! Be safe everyone!

LR, I hope that there were no serious injuries!
This is one of the reasons DH and I usually try to be off the roads on New Years Eve! Stay safe!

@Puzzle PieceThese things happen all the time - especially when drivers choose to distract themselves - talking, talking on cell phones, texting, eating, putting on mascara, etc. Also, many drivers think they are more important than anyone else on the road - they speed, cut lanes, etc.
Accidents at holiday time seem worse - unless you're the victim and then whether your loved one dies on January 14 or December 23 probably doesn't make that death any easier.

Accidents happen everyday for a variety of reasons.

People driving too fast and either talking on the cell phone or texting. When I go out, I see lots of people driving and using their cell phone. I see neighbors pull out their driveway and immediately get on the phone. I can't imagine what's so important that they couldn't have made the call before they get into their car.

I noticed this three times this week alone. Just this morning a person veered from their lane over into my lane. She was going too fast for a round-about and second, she was looking down at her phone. I laid on my horn. It's a good thing I'm observant of people around me.

When we went to Fl last Christmas we saw so many accidents. There were so many people on the roads with the low gas prices. Thought we would never make it to Fl with all the people on the roads, the rain, the accidents & lots of stop & go traffic.

as soon as it rains, here comes the accidents. people don't have enough sense to drive with some caution and slow down a bit. people are always in such a hurry and disregard their safety and the safety of others as well.
