@itiswhatitis- I have to read EVERY LABEL for sodium content!

Before I started to lose weight I learned that The Rice Diet (Rice University) advocates omission of salt as a potential cause of food cravings. I had planned to eliminate every source of cravings I could document, and I get more flavor now from spices and vinegars and oils.

@violann, thank for sharing.  I too, must limit my sodium intake but it is sooo hard.  I do the best I can.

80% of my diet is starches.

Why would someone restrict the most

important nutrient which fuels your body?

@sidsmom,many people have to forego these food categories for health reasons.  That's why.

@itiswhatitis

....and we found the reason why people are sick.

There's no reason to eliminate starches.

Our ancestors, across the globe, have been

eating starches for zillions of years.  It's not rocket science.

People are sick due eating animal meat & byproducts

and tons of fat & oils.  Again, it's not rocket science.

In the current issue of Martha Stewart's magazine,

she touts the benefits of starches.  I predict 10 yrs from now,

everyone will begin to realize we have to eat a low fat, plant based

diet to survive.   I just hope everyone reading this today will see

that day.  It's a cheap, ethical, healthy & sustainable way of eating.

@sidsmom, I am certainly not about to have this kind of discussion with you.  No way am I going to tell people who have been advised by their physicians how to eat.  Now you can just stop right there.  I don't care about your theories or what you think you know.  People have to abide by what their physicians tell them in terms of their own personal health and rightfully so.

That way you know ,you are eating the way ,that is safest for you

Weird...never said Martha Stewart was a doctor nor dietitian.

Dietary advice from your doctor?  Who has only had a handful

of nutritional classes within their medical education.

Yeah.  How's that working?

Re: How Much Do You Restrict Starch In Your Diet?

For me, not a lot really.  However, I do try to be much more mindful of 'simple carbs' like refined sugar and the like.  That's where you can really get into big trouble.

I'm not diabetic, so I don't have the need to be super diligent with any of the carbs.  But refined sugar is just poison.   But I don't have a lot going on in my life anymore so, sometimes, I enjoy a few bites of sorbet or another garbage food in small quantities.   Still bad, but - hey, who ever said I was a good chicken?  Smiley Happy

Way back in the day, when humans were hunters and gatherers, we ate whatever we could find, be it berries, plants, and yes, even fish, deer, and buffalo.

Man was made and designed to eat meat.

So I do.

No restrictions on what I eat.

I don't crave carbs all that often, but when I do, I eat potatos, pasta and bread.

It doesn't lead me to craving more.

@Plaid Pants2 for me the carbs (the more you eat, the more you want).  It's what complex carbs do.....

Took me a while to figure out how to eat rice, potatoes, etc. in moderation.  People say to eliminate this problem is to just don't eat them, but I do sparingly.

@Plaid Pants2, I meant "simple carbs" not complex carbs....my bad.

@itiswhatitis

Bless your heart.

The sick will remain sick with that mindset.

The plant based way of eating is the future.

I was just responding to the original post,

"How much do you restrict starch'...and I responded I don't

with an editorial comment of why someone would do that.

Bottom line is, there is NO one way of eating that is perfect for every body.

And anybody who says that there is only one way to eat that is perfect for every body, is trying to sell you something.

We each have to find what works best for our own body.

What works best for me, may not be what works for you, and vice versa.

It really is as simple as that.
