@itiswhatitis- I have to read EVERY LABEL for sodium content!
Before I started to lose weight I learned that The Rice Diet (Rice University) advocates omission of salt as a potential cause of food cravings. I had planned to eliminate every source of cravings I could document, and I get more flavor now from spices and vinegars and oils.

I do not restrict but I exercise every morning and I eat bran cereal for breakfast and again at lunch (I like it). A big salad with tons of different veg. and one half of a hard boil egg. Then I allow myself whatever I want for dinner, last night was one half of a frozen El Charito chicken chimichanga with queso sauce. Topped off with one half of a chocolate cupcake and sugar free ice cream.
The breakfast and lunch are small but fill me up all day, salad by itself first is the key to filling me up the most and the exercise counters the rest. Moderation is the key and not to deprive yourself. It will always lead to fall in my experience.
Bran and veggies lets me have a bit of bread and sugar.

Potatoes, rice, corn, oats, wheat.
Why would someone restrict the most
important nutrient which fuels your body?
@sidsmom,many people have to forego these food categories for health reasons. That's why.
....and we found the reason why people are sick.
There's no reason to eliminate starches.
Our ancestors, across the globe, have been
eating starches for zillions of years. It's not rocket science.
People are sick due eating animal meat & byproducts
and tons of fat & oils. Again, it's not rocket science.
In the current issue of Martha Stewart's magazine,
she touts the benefits of starches. I predict 10 yrs from now,
everyone will begin to realize we have to eat a low fat, plant based
diet to survive. I just hope everyone reading this today will see
that day. It's a cheap, ethical, healthy & sustainable way of eating.

Martha Stewart is not a Dr, nor is she a dietitian. For those of you with dietary restrictions, get your advice from your Dr
That way you know ,you are eating the way ,that is safest for you

I feel better if I eat a high protien breakfast, I do limit the amount of white bread and white rice I eat.
The whole fat and meat causes disease ( especially cardiovascular disease) has been debunked for years now, regardless if people want to pretend it hasn't been.

Way back in the day, when humans were hunters and gatherers, we ate whatever we could find, be it berries, plants, and yes, even fish, deer, and buffalo.
Man was made and designed to eat meat.
So I do.
No restrictions on what I eat.
I don't crave carbs all that often, but when I do, I eat potatos, pasta and bread.
It doesn't lead me to craving more.
