We got the IRS scam call a few months ago. When a strange number calls I look it up online and if it's a scam we block it. We are now getting three to four calls a day from random numbers in different states and it's driving me nuts. I keep blocking them but I don't think it's doing any good. We are on the do not call list too.

I'm getting calls now from a bank I never heard of. They won't talk just a recorded message saying to call them at a toll free number never heard of that bank. I just hang up. They will get tired I keep phone by my side when I'm sitting , so, I don't have to get up and break my neck , running for nothing. LOL

I think the more you answer even if you hang up the more calls you get because they got a live person. I look at the caller id before I answer and if it is someone I know calling from a number I don't know they will always leave a message.
Part of the reason the do not call list isn't good is because a lot of those calls are from outside the US so how can they be fined for anything. I used to block calls too but I've realized it is just a waste of time because they will call from a different number.

I personally have found the Do not Call registry a complete waste of time. Both my cell and my home numbers are on that list and we still get calls all the time. We just don't bother to answer the phone if we don't recognize the number.
I tried to sign up and use nomorerobo and while it says it's compatible with TWC, one of the steps is missing on the TWC website so you can't sign up. I even called and the CS was able to pull up the necessary icon on her end but we never could get this to work.
Buy a Call Blocker. It blocks up to 2000 numbers and when you get a new call? Hit "block call" and that number will not ring again. Many calls I get ARE the same number, but as I said previously, I like entertaining myself with these scammers. While I am having fun they are not calling others.
Go to the biggest online retailer and check out Call Blocker and your phone will ring much less.

It works by simultaneously ringing the phone call first through them to see if its a robo call (scamming phone calls) and searching their data base and if its a legitimate call, it will ring a 2nd time on your phone. If its a scam call, it rings once to your phone then stops.
This is a FREE service and it has blocked so many of these calls; even in heavy election years it will block calls; you can add to their list also in case a scam call goes through by mistake.
Watch the video too for a brief explanation on how it works.
Our landline service is ATT here and they aren't compatible with nomorobo but I saw that ATT Uverse is. For that reason, and a big decrease in price for our phone/internet, I just decided to switch our phone service to Uverse.
I hope this works out and, after the service is changed, I can sign up with nomorobo. Telemarketing is something that irks me on such a profound level. They come next Tuesday to switch it. Yay! Just in time to, hopefully, miss all the campaign season calls. I'm really tired of having to just turn off all my phones for months at a time.

I agree with the poster who said that the National Registry "Do Not Call" works... we did that with the phone #'s we had before we moved (cell and land lines) and it really does work.
After we moved here, we changed our cell #'s and registered them with the Do Not Call Registry .... but we went one step further, we've actually never had a land line put in at our home!! DH and I both use our iPhones for everything and we've never had even one scam phone call... it's wonderful.
We kept saying we need to put in a land line but kept putting it off and now we think, "why should we?" ..... ![]()

Today must be my lucky day. I normally do not answer the phone but as soon as I saw Sterling, VA on my caller ID, I remembered this is where the one I received a few months ago, originated. I was prepared for their scam so wanted to answer.
This time I had a heavily accented female voice. She apparently was reading a script because she never stopped or responded to my comments.
If I hung up, a sheriff would take me into custody immediately. If I did not settle my account immediately, a sheriff would take me to jail within 45 minutes. I owed the IRS $47,000 but they would settle for $1200 on a credit card.
I told her I was recording the call. I told her I knew the IRS would not have a heavily accented person call me concerning my account. I told her, I hoped she and her fellow scammers burned in hell.
Unlike the last scammer who kept calling back not giving me a chance to block his number, she did not call back.
I reported her at https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml

Good job, Lulu!! I hope that goes as far as it should toward stopping this kind of thing.
Seriously, you're my hero for the day.

If it turns out one of those calls gets through-- usually the local elected officials; you can add the number to the list and it will eventually be blocked.

Thanks, Jazzmom!
I will keep that valuable information in mind. I'd do anything I could to eliminate telemarketing from MY phones.
It wouldn't be so irksome if I wasn't paying more to be unlisted and to have a private number. Those fees should also cover NOT having my phone number used by other people and entities without my permission.
Well, in my mind anyway. *sigh*
