Re: Contributor Status

[ Edited ]

I believe it has to do with the NUMBER of posts you do. When I had done 500 posts, I received a notification that said I was a Valued contributor.

I recently completed 1,000 posts, and again received a notification; this time saying I was now a Trusted contributor.

If you look at people's information when they post, to the left of the message they left, it will show the number of posts they have done. That will give you an idea of the range of post numbers needed in order to have that contributor status.

From what I have read in the past, most people don't care what the status is. But I think it shows the vested interest a poster has in the forums. I don't take it to mean that they know more than someone else on any given subject, just that they contribute a lot to the forum.

Those with Honoroed, like @dooBdoo, have several thousand. The highest number I have seen is around 19,000; but I forget what their status was.

Actually, I sooooo wish they'd just get rid of those meaningless titles.

Can you not just ignore them without the Devs getting involved? I don't even notice my own title, much less anyone else's.

I usually only look at a poster's registration date and post count, and even those I only look at if the person asks a question indicating she or he might be new here or may be a spammer.

If the reg date is very new and the post count is very small (100 or fewer posts), that may impact my response because it indicates the person may be very new here and need more basic help than someone with 4000 posts and a reg date of 2014.

So .... if I understand the above correctly ....  it's the MODERATORS that decide on the "quality" of our posts?  Does one Mod decide, or do they vote on this?    Do I have this right?

@Tinkrbl44, That quoted text is from another forum.   From what I've seen, that's not what happens here.   There also was an odd "blurb" about the "weight" of hearts on this forum and one of the moderators said those parts of the software aren't used on the Q Community.  It's all meaningless...  and I wish the tech staff would just block the "rankings" so they wouldn't create such a stir.Smiley

The moderators are here to patrol and answer questions.  A status moves up with the number of posts.  So if you post your own posts or reply several times or to everything and if you're here everyday, all day-you will move up the status ladder.

The bottom line (for me) is that it's just a number, just a silly, meaningless "title."    If it's an easy switch on/off, I'd vote for blocking it.   If it takes more than that, my vote is for the tech staff to devote their time to the myriad of other real problems on this wonky website.SmileySmiley

i had found these rankings on an HP forum months ago (shortly after the boards changed last june 2015) and had posted them here. it seems to be what qvc has applied in the new forums. the explanations DONT include the heart feature ( i dont believe). i THINK this is the full list of forum rankings for posters on the qvc forums.:

Some of those high status labels belong to some very negative posters on this board.

That's why I think it's measured by post count, alone.(which isn't accurate , anyways)
