I believe I rewad once the USA is the only country that allows ads for drugs that require a Rx.

Do they really expect people to waltz into a dr's office and ask for a specific drug? My dr knows a heck of a lot more about these drugs than I ever will from a 30-second commercial. I don't see how the drug companies are even allowed to advertise prescription medication, and that's all we see for commercials any more. Personally I mute them all. Whatever happened to cute ads for Fruit Loops or Grape Juice?

Yes, I imagine many people waltz into their doctors' offices and demand these drugs for all their ailments.

Doctors get a kickback for prescribing those "recommended" drugs

I once did a study on the affects of commercialism....was an eye opener the phychology, subliminal persuasion and money that goes into advertising. I try not to let those TV commercials affect me but I noticed when I went to the Doctors they have a TV on....to the untrained eye would seem is just a local channel but it is actually programmed via various drug com[panies to run a drug advertisement every 3-5 minutes.....wow. Wonder how much the office gets paid by those drug companies to run those continuous ads?? Whats up with the scarey one about baby boomers and advetising that HepC vaccine (is it Harvoni?) Will have to look into that one about why and what and who....scare tactics now?
I do not watch much TV (Yay went on the fritz) but when DH does I often get red faced at some of the trite mindless ones selling bathroom spray (What is a devils donut?? LOL) Ok yes I know but seems to insult the intelligent mind eh? And no I cant drive a car on 3 wheels LOL. I make a game of it really and know is all about the hard sell.......sometimes so hard and crass it turns me off completely. Hehehe I got a devils donut for them all. (smiles and grins)

I think drug commercials should be banned. It is my understanding that the U.S. is the only country that allows such advertising on TV.

I record much of what I watch and if I'm watching something not recorded, I just watch semi-live so that I can FF through commercial segments.
They don't tend to have any negative effect on me (except for the ones that are so stupid, like those liberty insurance company ones that just pi$$ me off).
Just remember - all a commercial is, is somebody trying to sell something. Nothing more, nothing less.
Anything they say is for the express purpose of selling something.

Whatever happened to "Choosy mothers choose Jif" and "Good to the Last Drop"? I wish they'd focus more on other things besides health.
In one word, yes. But to look at the bigger picture, I firmly believe all TV is bad for us as people. The constant barrage of negativity is not good. Most media is negative in many ways.

A friend of the family is an endocrinologist. He told us that drug salesmen come to his office and offer him all kinds of perks if he'll prescribe their drug to patients. He basically tells them that he can't be bought. This has been going on long before all these drug commercials began hitting the airwaves. There's something very wrong and unethical about this practice.

I can honestly say a television ad has never gotten a buyer out of me.
As little as I watch QVC, a host has gotten a buyer out of me.
Most of the things I use aren't advertised. As far as food, it's always packaged or prepared foods and I rarely by them and if I do it's organic (never advertised).
My vehicles are never advertised on TV commercials and that's fine by me. There's no ad agency that could get me to buy a car because of their ad, I want what I want and that's that.
I zone out on most commercials, epecially the drug ads. They usually say the people portraying the patients are actors. The side effects are dismal and blah blah blah.
The campaign ads were painful, embarrassing and made my blood boil, thankfully they are over.
