This sounds like a huge lawsuit. Of all the places to have your kid eaten, Disney would probably be the last one you'd imagine. To have dangerous animals wandering free on their property is not going to look good for Disney in court. I know people will argue that it's the parents' responsibility to watch their kids, but it's an uphill climb to protect anyone if there are alligators lying in wait.

Isn't it taking place in a lagoon at the Floridian? I don't think it matters why they were there...I've taken my children to that area before. Shame on Disney for not monitoring it's property better for just such situations! You expect to be safe if you are on the property. The parents were right there and the dad went right after the gator. When he began having trouble, the mom joined him. The gator made a fast get away with the little boy! How horrible! After this week I think we all need to pray for the poor people in Florida!

I thought this was about gator wrestling. How horrible.

In the article I read, it said 2 year old was playing at the edge of the water. It also said a sign was posted saying No Swimming. Very sad situation.

So the parents weren't expecting an animal predator, how about those human predators? For goodness sakes parents, watch your kids!

@Plaid Pants2 I wondered this too but heard that the parents were outside with this child.
The news people indicated that there are signs posted 'no swimming'. Didn't the parents see these signs? Oh wait, it was 9:30PM and dark outside by then. Which leads me to...
Why is a 2 year old not in bed at 9:30PM? Vacation or not, seems pretty late for a 2 year old still up, outside having fun.
But I also must ask - why are there not signs posted that there are gators in this body of water. The news people talked to a guy with Fishing & gaming and he said clearly there are gators in this lake. Why would they not post signs to NOT get in this lake?

Exactly.

There are signs that say no swimming. (meaning don't get in the water) The articles I have read don't say they were just on the beach sand, but wading in the water.

The child wading and splashing is likely what got the alligators attention.
