?? What Would You Do ?? :)

[ Edited ]

We were watching the tv show "What Would You Do?" and I started to wonder if any of our posters had a real life experience like the situations in the show ~ if you did, what did you do? Smiley Happy

(If you aren't familiar w the show here's a description:

"Using hidden cameras, host John Quiñones observes and comments on how ordinary people behave when they are confronted with dilemmas that require them either to take action or to walk by and mind their own business.

Various scenarios are created that force people to make split-second -- and often surprising -- decisions, and variations of the situation (such as changing the genders, races or clothing of the people involved) are often featured to see if different reactions are elicited.

Examples of situations on the show include a waitress being harassed by her boss, and a drunken valet trying to park cars.")

@AuberriJean  I absolutely love John and this show.  Tracy is a hoot!Cat Very Happy

As far as a real life experience, I am not sure if this is was an episode, but it should be.

I am a lung patient with oxygen and have been for 12 years.  I have a disabled persons  license plate.  I was 34 when I was first placed on oxygen part time. DH and I had gone to church for a Christmas service.  I had used my oxygen in the car and chose not to take it in.  To everyone, I look "healthy" on the outside. There were plenty of handicap parking places  but we did use one.  I never had trouble before this day.  An eldery woman chastized me in the parking lot and accused me of using either my elderly parent's or grandparent's car with the DP tag just to get close to the building and I ought to be ashamed of myself.  I was dumbfounded.  I was looking around for John Q!

You don't really know what someone is going through unless you have walked in their shoes.  Some people have things going on that outwardly, you can't tell.

I'm not short...I'm fun size!

Pandalady - I worked with a 24 year old female and she got a handicap license  plate (I heard from her Grandmother). She had no physical or mental issues.  I asked her once about it and she said she just loved the convenience of it.  And she was proud to have and use it.  Fortunately I no longer work with her.

I live in Florida where every Tom, ****** & Harry has a handicapp plate or thing to hang on the mirror. When I had my ankle surgery and was in a wheelchair for 4 months I had one temporarily and I can tell you - when you really need the spot so you can get a wheelchair out of the car and get the person loaded into it these spaces are a God send and it is diusgusting to me that doctors give them to everyone and those who actually need them they are not available.I've seen people use a handicapp parking space then go into the Elks and be up dancing. WTH - they can get up and dance but can't walk to their car????

As far as what would I do - I tend to try to mind my own business. Unless it was something horrendous. I once saw a man hitting a woman and I did step in and grab him so she could get away.He tried to hit me then and I blocked his arm and told him unless he can take as well as hand out - I was the wrong woman - I grew up with 5 brothers and was very able to defend myself.

I agree the handicap spaces are needed for those who need it. But now there are spaces for expectant mothers and for people with toddlers. And normal parking spaces are far away. I have trouble walking but do not have a handicap plate so it is not easy walking so far.

First, I will insert that I do not like or watch the show.  I call it, "What Should You Do," because I feel they preach / teach their agenda(s).

On to the topic of  specialized parking spaces -- our Home Depot has a space designated for "Veterans."   DH appreciates it, and uses it whenever he can.

I do appreciate the parking spots for senior citizens, but saw a 30 something gal using one which I didn't appreciate.

Re: ?? What Would You Do ?? :)

I have never used a Handicapped parking space.  I look perfectly fine and am Except when the bone spur on the Achilles' tendon acts up or the bone spur under each of my heels is severely hurting.  I try to walk through the pain: there are times when they don't hurt, go figure.

A while back, I had an immobilized boot from toe to kneecap for 5 months and simply rocked from my car to wherever.  Didn't use the battery-operated chair art at the supermarket:  instead, ended up with arthritis in that kneecap from the rocking.

I need the exercise and feel someone else might need it more. As long as I can......
