I would attend the party and give her a hug. She truly does not need or want a gift as stated on the invite.

It seems a lot of you haven't had a lot of interaction with a 95 yr. old in a nursing home situation.    Candles, just no.    Lipstick and face cream... again no.    No gifts a big yes.   Hug her and say happy birthday!

DH & I have been invited to his aunt's 95th birthday.  The invitation says "no gifts", and I would like to honor that request, but I don't think DH would agree with me.  I feel a little something would be nice, but don't have a clue.  Aunt is in a convalescent home and really has no need for money.  Any suggestions that would be appropriate and not over the top.

Most nursing homes have a hairstylist who may be there certain times of the week so you might pay for her to have her hair done. Also maybe someone could do her nails.

Thanks @sann, that's exactly what we're going to do.  We realize the invite says no gifts, but feel this "gift" isn't the typical kind.  It won't have to be stored, or taken home by the family, no dietary restrictions and what 95 year old wouldn't enjoy being pampered.
