I wash my hair with shampoo to get the oils and hair products out. A conditioner alone makes my hair feel dirty. What about our faces? Should we use conditioner?

Sure you can. I have (I don't wear much makeup). Honestly, the idea that we need all the things we do to wash ourselves is a construct of the beauty industry.

Dove soap, a bottle of shampoo and a bottle of conditioner is a lot????

Re: Using conditioner instead of shampoo

My DD has been using conditioner only and will squeak in a shampoo about once a month, per her cosmetician/stylist. She's happy with it. However---her hair constantly smells like that of an aged person in a nursing home with questionable hair care. Know what I mean? Her hair just smells BAD.

OTOH, my hair tends to be dry,as does my scalp and both need constant conditioning, especially since we moved to the Pacific Northwest. My stylist suggested using "It's a 10 Silk Express" leave-in conditioner on a daily basis (after wetting my hair) and shampooing once a week. This is a lighter leave-in than the one I prefer which is "Enjoy Leave-in Conditioner" (Amazon-introduced to me by my San Diego stylist when it was only available in salons). Couldn't do the once a week shampoo, so am doing it twice a week. Hair and scalp are much better and I've got DH checking my hair for the dreaded odor, which I've been able to avoid.

Good Luck!

Re: Using conditioner instead of shampoo

One thing I have noticed from reading some of the Wen threads on this forum is, no one uses the product as directed! Everyone has their own method of how they make it work for them. (Even though Chaz repeatedly states that you must use the number of pumps directed, etc., etc. or you won't like the results.) I've read that some "faithful users" even incorporate shampoo into their "cleansing" routine at certain intervals!

By their statements on this forum, it is the Wen users, themselves, who have debunked the cleansing conditioner craze.

When I go on vacation, I take one bottle of WEN and used that as my face wash, my hair wash, my body wash, my shaving cream, and my leave-in conditioner. A lot is relative.

Hmmmm. Chaz has 86 products online and they're not all just different scents of cleansing conditioner.

Yes, I remember years ago when Chaz said all you will ever need is my CC. Funny how that all you will ever need has multiplied.

Not trying to argue with you Chynna. Three items isn't a lot.

And before there was "shampoo", people used oils and herbs to "cleanse" their hair for thousands of years. Gasp, imagine that! {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

I think that's when they also used to brush 100 strokes a night.

*****

Before there was shampoo, all we ever used was a cake of Camay soap. Pre-root/color treating, I could use anything and always with fabulous results.

But I cannot just use conditioner (no matter what kind) on my hair today and get the results I like.

Some tidbits on bygone hair cleansing:

"....up until the the mid eithteen hundreds the average woman used water to wash their hair. There was soap if you could afford it or had the means to make it but since heavy products and pollution was not a great problem it was not that necessary. Wealthy lady's could afford Rose water for a rinse. Rain water was captured for hair and bath water. Tonics also appeared in the mid 1800's that suposedly made ones hair smell good and grow. But before all that it was water. Oh yes the homemade and store bought soap was basically castile soap. Glycerin soap was also available. There was the big difference of affordability or if you made your own. Hair tonics and the using of oils scented or for other reasons came from the north african, middle east and further east influence from trade and travel. So of course this was available to the rich for many years before the average woman would ever use those things.

My mothers mother was born pre 1900's and she had a habit of using the prepared talo or lard or captured lanolin from sheeps wool on her hair. I had also read this was also used amongst whites because the hair styles of the mid 1800's was very slick and worn close to the head. This may have also been a regional practise. [sic] Naturally prepared talo or lanolin is very soft and fine with no smell. Talo is used to make candle wax, oils, and soap. Castor oil and coconut oil became available also with the opening up and discovery of the trade to the islands. Islands lady's [sic] used the coconut oil on their hair."

Coconut oil contains saponins. Saponins foam readily and have mild cleansing agents.

I can't for the life of me understand, what everyone's gripe about Wen is. I would have to be a pretty miserable person fo come on a forum every day bashing a product I don't even use. If you don't like it, don't use it. It's really simple.

O/P, keep using what works for you. Don't be swayed by anyone else's opinions or experiences. Your hair, your skin, is unique to you.

The OP said she is using Renpure Keratin conditioner. Only some posters have chosen to make it about Wen.
