@MaggieMack I love my Audrey too! I guess you could say he & I have been together for a lon time now. She actually would be the asst/shampoo girl for my prior stylist who left the salon and moved away. Lucky for me, Audrey moved into being a full-ledged stylist by then. So glad she stayed at the same salon and continues to biultup her own clientelle. She too i young & hip, always looks great, wears her own hair in a lot of great styles! She gives me inspiration for my own hair.

My hairdresser usually shampoos. When she is busy and has someone else do it, I don't usually tip. Last week, I had a cut and color. While my color was processing, she did another cut/style and so had the assistant shampoo and even apply a gloss. I figured she should share my tip with her assistant if she's running late and has to ask for help. I'm a good tipper, but I don't think I should tip extra because my hairdresser asks for help.

I tip the woman who washes my hair at the station right after she is through. The woman who washes my hair has worked at the salon for years. She is strictly a shampooer, has never been an apprentice. I'm sure she doesn't make much an hour so that's why I tip her $4.

There's a thread I read here a few days ago wondering if the hair stylist should receive a tip AT ALL.
Tips should be given to people that go above and beyond the line of duty, not just for doing a job they're getting paid to do.

The shampoo person only gets a dollar from me, all she does is wash my hair! My stylist gets 20% of my charge!

I took my elderly mother to the beauty salon today for a haircut, dye, wash, and blowout. I tipped the shampooer $5 and the owner who did the rest $20 (the cost was $88). Anywho I'm sitting waiting for my mother and this older woman walks in wanting a haircut. She says she washed her hair, just wants a haircut and blowout. She lives in Florida and was in N.Y. for surgery. Her bill was $28 and she pays with a $20 and $10 and gives the $2 as a tip! She then proceeds to use the hairstylist's cellphone to call someone to pick her up. I felt bad for the stylist getting shorted on the tip. She did a nice job and I think she should have given her $6. In what universe is a $2 tip adequate?

Thank goodness my stylist washes my hair. I 'd hate to have to tip 2 people.
