Re: Help, My Face Looks Like a Prune

Forgot to mention that if you are using any retinols (Dr. D or otherwise) perhaps it would be helpful to reduce the number of times you use them weekly. All of the retinols that I have used have tended to be drying to my skin. Also, I reduce my usage of the peel pads during the cold months as well. What works on the skin in the spring/summer months can be too much during the winter.

Re: Help, My Face Looks Like a Prune

I'm 74 yrs. old with very dry skin I just started using (from Hsn) M. Asam Aqua Intense Hyaluronic serum and cream. I immediately saw a big difference in the plumping of my skin. I had tried so many other products, like Philosophy Miracle Worker and Peter Thomas Roth Neuroliquid. Those worked itsy bitsy, but M. Asam's products made a world of difference. But for spf protection, I apply Josie Maran's Spf 47 and that adds to the hydration and plumping up of my skin.

Re: Help, My Face Looks Like a Prune

Hi florabelle-

I feel your pain! I have had dry skin since my teen years and now I would qualify myself as extremely dry. (almost 50!eek) Anyway, my dermatologist recommended a warm mist humidifier at night and honestly, the 15$ vicks one from target works great. I have several in the house in case one of the kids is sick I don't have to give them mine! Ha ha.

Something else I found years ago that works for me-just like oily skinned people may blot or touch up during the day, I actually add another dose of hydration to my face after lunch. Twice a day just isn't enough. If I'm home ill use an oil (another vote here for all of Josie Marans products) if I'm at work I have a mist-tatcha makes a great hydration mist you can get from their website but its pricy. Just press in a light layer right over your foundation. If my Rosacea peeks through I touch up with a thin Concealer. I also pat in a balm under my eyes where my only wrinkles are Smiley Sad

I also switch to a serum foundation like Josie maran matchmaker or bare minerals serum-they are more hydrating and have cleaner ingredient decks.

My dermatologist also said if you thoroughly cleanse at night just using water in the morning is enough. I use water and a konjac sponge in the AM. It works great. Do not use hot water-tepid or cool is best. And as so many have already mentioned, hydrate from the inside out. I mix up my essential oils and take supplements of fish oil, sea buckhorn and evening primrose. If your in a colder climate - protect your face with a scarf or mask outside. Its a pain, but I find if I do everything I "should" my skin does ok in the Michigan winter.

Good luck-id love for you to check back in in a few weeks to say how you're doing!

Have you ever tried Dr. Perricone's Face Finishing Moisturizer? I'm 52 and this is the only product I use, morning and night. No need for eye creams, serums, or other products with this. I highly recommend it...and a little botox once a year.

Add an Omega supplement to what everyone has said. If you object to popping pills, use the pills for an enema suppository, and eat fish... preferably Salmon.

People on this beauty board should look up hyaluronic acid - it is a carcinogen. And yet, ladies here seem to use it freely - like it is a good idea.

Yes HH please cite your sources. I haven't seen one piece of data that topical use of HA causes cancer. It is actually in your own skin and starts to diminish when we are in our 30s and 40s.

Good advice here from those who suggested a humidifier. You can buy a small bedside one to run at night for a reasonable price at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Don't forget your coupon.

Also, I find that using a gentle exfoliator (even a washcloth) with CeraVe Hydrating cleanser, then following up with a really good moisturizer applied on damp skin--- combined with the humidifier---does the trick.

I liked the Bare Minerals Active Cell serum, follwed by the moisturizer, too. Good luck.

Doubtful you will get a response on her source; you are so right with "classic HH".

Hilarious how HAPPY HOUSEWIFE'S reputation is known by so many ! I usually read the

comments on these threads before I look to see who wrote them and 100% of the time, I can tell when a comment comes from HH. Her entries are notorious for 'stirring the pot'.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}
