Re: Plastic Bag Collection = Do you?

For a few years now, stores  here will  not give us a plastic bag.  We must provide our own reusable bags.  (State law)  (They do have bags  for us to use for buyng produce though.)   We even have to provide our own bag when buying at Marshall's Macy's, etc.

I use them daily when I scoop my cat's litter box.  I don't use all of the bags, though.  I was recycling the rest of them, but the trash company that I use was recently sold, and the new company doesn't take grocery bags to recycle.  I think I'll start taking the ones I don't save for the litter box back to the grocery store and put them in their big bin that's for that purpose.

I do have a set of five reusable bags.  Sometimes I forget to take them in the store, and sometimes I purposely get the bags at the store for the litter box scooping.

Only use the washable bags.

PS almost all re-usable bags are washable.

Too make it really simple I only use canvas bags for items that may be 'icky' like meat.

Other bags are used for clothes or homegoods.

The ones that pack into a tiny pouch are for whatever unplanned purchase.

@Abrowneyegirl   Do the ChicoBags hook onto the hooks where the grocery store baggers bag your groceries?  I have similar bags, but they don't hook on those hooks.  It makes it harder for them to bag the groceries, although they've never complained about it.

Re: Plastic Bag Collection = Do you?

I save them and use them.

I have six small black trash "cans" all around the apartment.  They're black and barely noticeable.  Strategically placed so no matter where I'm sitting, there's a can nearby.  I use the plastic bags as lners  They're a perfect size.

I but about a dozen bags in the bottom of each can.  The cans are so small, they have to be emptied a couple of times a week.  I go through a lot of plastic bags.  By the end of the week, I can go through about 60 bags.

So ... yes, I use them.

I save a few for small trash can liners but 95% of them goes into recycling.

I only keep enough to clean the litter box every day. Regarding recycling the bags, I saw a program on cable not long ago that was about trash going into landfills versus recycling. The thing that grabbed me was that the host said that the plastic grocery bags are not recyclable and end up getting snarled in the huge machines they use to compact the trash.

Re: Plastic Bag Collection = Do you?

I only frequent one store that uses plastic bags. I use them to line my trash until I run out of them.  I only accumulate about 6 bags per month.

I store them in an empty boutique Kleenex  box and pull out when needed.

Most of the places I shop, I carry my own reusable tote bags.

Re: Plastic Bag Collection = Do you?

I ended up with several kitchen size trash bags full of the plastic store bags! I finally stopped keeping so many lol.

When I donated things to the Salvation Army I included the plastic bags I had saved. They were happy to have them to use for customers.

I also sometimes have taken to the store for recycle. If Walmart recyles theirs anymore only one thing will be able to be put per bag so they dont tear lmbo.

@NickNack

It does work on those holders!

Some better that others, I guess this is not standard amongst all the grocery stores yet.

They are great bags though as they are light weight and easy to tuck into a pocket or your handbag.  They wash quickly and easily (I machine wash and air dry) they dry in a snap.

Thank you @Abrowneyegirl .  I think I'm going to order some from Amazon.  I'll wait until Prime Day and see if they're on sale.  I do have reusable bags, but they don't fit on the bagger's handles.  They never complain, but I know it's not easy for them to load the bags.
