Don't think Medicare will pay for it, but, it's not that high.

Movie Prep, think it's called . you only have to drink 3 glasses of it and it's doable.  No way could I had gotten down that gallon of 'stuff'. LOL

all I had wrong was hemorrhoids. Couple of polyps (benign) taken out.

Medicare only pays for one scope every 10 yrs.

My prep wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated.  I was lucky that I got the Gatorade/Miralax prep for mine.  No problem drinking what I needed to at all.

My sister had the Go-Lightly and really became ill.

The first colo I had, I was given the Go Lightly.  Taste is horrible, but the nausea was worse.  They wanted to send me home because I was dehydrated...I refused.

After that I now use the Miralax and Gatorade method.  Works well, but I still can't drink the whole thing.

My gasto will not use just the pill procedure; said it does not cleanout as well as others.

I keep saying... I can't believe that someone hasn't come up with a simple, easy, non-foul tasting prep method!!!

Another tip: drink the prep cold and drink through a straw.

@qualitygal  It sounds like you used the Miralax/Gatorade prep, which is what I used the last three times...I go every three years. They have discontinued that prep method because the FDA has found it can cause serious electrolyte issues. They are now back to the “gallon of garbage.”

I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to get down that whole gallon. But I guess I’ll find out in a few weeks.

@qualitygal   Wouldn't you think they could come up with something better?  I just keep reminding myself that it's just a few hours, over the course of one evening.

Add me to the list of colonoscopy warriors!  It's 5:30 in the morning and I am trying to down my second dose of magnesium citrate. I poured it into a tumbler, added tons of ice and am sipping it thru a straw.

Had the first dose yesterday at 4:00p.m. and spent the rest of the day and half the night sitting on the toilet.

Consuming 64 oz of liquid mixed with the miralax - yikes!!!!  What are we?????? Camels??????

After this dose of citrate goes down, I'm to start on 3 ten oz glasses of liquid.  At least it won't be filled with miralax.

I'm praying all goes well this morning.

Good Morning,

I wish I had seen your post earlier.  I just had my colonosopy last Friday and used the magnesium citrate procedure also.  I had to space it out four hours apart and drink 8 oz of clear liquid per hour.  I found seltzer water helped settle my stomach, it must be the carbonation in it.   I had the first bottle at 1:30pm and finished the last one at 6:00pm.  It was tough to get down and keep down but I managed.  I was at the hospital at 6:30am for my 7:30 procedure and home by 9:00 - 9:30.

End result, no pun intended, was one polyp so I will need to repeat in five years but better than my prior three year plan.  Hope all goes well for you--Karen

Thank you Karen!

I'm glad both yours and mine are over!!!!!

THey removed 3 polyps and because I have a "twisted colon" (who knew??) the sedation didn't quite sedate me.  I think I yelled a lot Smiley Sad

But, it's over and there are no problems (hopefully.  they did take a biopsy).  Now I'm on the 5 year plan.

Next time- propofol for me!!!!

@OnlyShopsOnline, I just had mine done a couple months ago and had the Gatorade/Miralax prep.  I cannot find anything on-line that indicates the FDA found this method to cause an electrolyte issue.

I know it was never approved by the FDA but Gatorade is supposed to replace electrolytes so I'm not sure why there would be a problem with this prep over the others.
