I had propofol 10 years ago for my 2nd colonoscopy.  This time it was fentanyl and versed.  I think it would have been fine if I had a normal colon but because mine is all twisted, I was not sedated nearly enough.

That combo is what is being used in my hospital here in NH.  I agree with the other writer that there has to be a better way and yes, I think these procedures are money makers but they are also life savers.

Just had to share something to make this awful prep easier. This was my 4th and as you know, if you had one, the prep is worse than the procedure. I had some Zofran in the house and took it 30 mins before I started my prep and it made a huge difference. I did not get sick to my stomach or throw up. If you need to do this prep I suggest asking for a script for this.

Is that an antacid?

@Tinkrbl44  This will calm your stomach. Had to have a CT scan and took it again before drinking that chalky drink they give you.

@Reever

This is in reference to your post about "your neighbor". I don't like "quoting quotes of a quote quoted by several others". Of my 15 Colonoscopies I have had 2 with no anesthesia and those were #5 and #6. While not the most comfortable of the procedures I have had, they were far from the worst.

I did the miralax/gatorade method the last three times I've had colonoscopies.  Years ago, they used a simple and less nasty method, but that was the one they had to discontinue due to electrolyte problems.

My issue is getting so dehydrated that they can't start and IV.  Poke, poke, poke and I am ready for tears.  Since I have to go every 5 years becasue my father and maternal grandmother died of colon cancer, my doctor asked the supervisor of the out-patient surgery department to meet with me and put in my IV this last time.  He also told me to drink as much fluids as I felt comfortable drinking up to three hours before the procedure so I wouldn't be so dehydrated.  I had a much more comfortable experience this last time and I was grateful.

Lots of false negatives and false positives with Cologuard for my liking, which then leaves one wondering. If a patient gets a false negative they have got zero benefit and might eventually have to have a Colonoscopy. If it is a false positive, they would be foolish not to have a Colonoscopy.

Why go with a procedure that has a high number of false readings when there is, to me, a pretty simple close to 100% accurate procedure available. Makes little sense to me when it comes to a possible long and painful way to die.

I had 2 of my very close friends die of Colon Cancer and I remember well their last years of life. Couldn't talk either of them into having a Colonoscopy and it cost them and their families dearly.

Traditional colonoscopy will always be the gold standard in colon cancer screening, nothing else will replace it.

Cologuard is great for those at very low colon cancer risk or for those who are adament about refusing colonoscopy, but not everyone else is a candidate for it. Cologuard did detect a large polyp in someone I know, and then the real deal had to be preformed to remove it. Hence, this person is no longer a candidate for Cologuard.

My DH had the Cologuard test.  It came back positive so then he had to do the procedure.  They did find a tiny polyp and removed it.  Because he did the Cologuard the insurance didn't cover much of the procedure because at that point it was no longer preventative but diagnostic.

Hello @Shelbelle ,

Thank you for making my point with your post about "someone you know" in reference to Cologard. Even though it worked, that "someone" ended up having a Colonoscopy. That is why Cologard, to me, makes little sense.

Positive results equal a Colonoscopy, Negative results equal a maybe

Hope you and your husband are doing well.
