I have a friend who has tried to convince them to just go straight to the ultrasound, but she has settled for scheduling it at the same time as the mammogram to save time and worry. Seagirl, the waiting is definitely the worst part, but again, callbacks are VERY common, most due to breast density. So take one step at a time. My mammogram caught the lump at an early stage which saved my life, so that was actually the best outcome that could have happened!
I've had other women tell me their cancer was caught early thanks to the mammogram. Glad you are one of those women & thanks for sharing your story. Are you still in recovery or cancer free? They found a density on mine & an enlarged lymph node near it. So they're a little concerned. Looks like I'm getting the full range of tests as of now. The great benefit of the internet/forums so many women share their stories with strangers & it's comforting to hear cancer survivor stories & women that experienced the call back.

mapleglazed.....I just went thru the same thing.....sooooooooo happy with your good news!!! The waiting is the worst isn't it? Make sure you followup in 6months!!!!
My news was not so great. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my left breast on 1/2...had to go for an MRI to see if it had spread....thank goodness it had not. But they found a spot on my right breast. I had an MRI guided core biopsy last Monday and got the call on Wed. that the right breast was benign....thank God!
I finally saw the surgeon on Thurs.....Lumpectomy is scheduled for 2/2.....the waiting is killing me. I have the worst case scenarios going thru my head. If it has not spread to my lymph nodes I will require radiation and and oral medication only....if it has spread I will also have Chemo in my future.
I'm frightened....please keep me in your thoughts.
eta......Good luck to you seagirl....just read your post.

Diagnosis and treatment have come a long way, even in 10 years. You sound like you have a good attitude going into the additional tests, which is more important than anything. Whatever they find, I am confident you will deal with it and be fine. Again, you are lucky that they have so many tools they didn't have years ago, so they are being extra thorough and cautious with you. Please keep us posted, I will be thinking about you! The lumpectomy isn't bad at all, and radiation, other than being scary at first, truly isn't bad. It doesn't hurt, and has few side effects. I honestly couldn't talk about having cancer for several years without crying, yet I always considered myself to be among the "lucky" ones because they caught it early. I think it made me angry more than anything that my body was invaded by this thing! Forgive me if you've heard this before, but my surgeon told me "you'll go through some sh&t" and then you'll be fine! That was my mantra, and he was SO right! You will be fine too! I encourage you, if you haven't already, to go to the "Cancer Survivors" thread in Health & Wellness. People there have been through it all, and will answer ANY question you may have. Trust me, you will survive this, and sooner than you think, YOU will be the one giving comfort to others! Thanks lizzie....I appreciate your support.
Hearing those words were surreal....I actually stopped hearing after my doctor told me. It all seems like a bad dream. I really haven't talked about my fears much and was reluctant to even mention it here. I'm not sure why.
I'm not sure I have the ""courage"" to check out that thread yet....but I will.
Thanks for pointing me in that direction. <3

I remember I felt very alone because I was diagnosed on a Friday and just wished there was someone I could talk to! One suggestion - bring someone with you to your appointments in the beginning. They will remember things you don't - it's a lot to absorb - and they may ask questions you forget to. There's a ton of information out there - Susan Komen, breast cancer.org to start. You will be getting a whole new education - welcome to the club that nobody wants to be a part of! But you'll find there's lots of support when you are ready. KThanks lizzie....I appreciate your support.
