I say go enjoy your Christmas @Nightowlz .  Keep it covered if you can and keep contact to a minimum (zero for baby) just to be safe.    Smiley Happy

Re: Shingles???

[ Edited ]

@Nightowlz   Actually, I always say this so I am not sure why it took me so long but don't be afraid to visit your local pharmacist to have he or she take a peek.  They could at least recommend OTC products to give some extra relief if you need it and give you a good idea of what you're probably dealing with free of charge.

If you had Shingles outbreaks before then you know you have to stay away from babies, people who haven't been innouclated against chicken pox and people with compromised immune systems.  Thanks for reminding me that I have to get the new Shingles vaccine.  I had the older version about 8 years ago.  I don't know what doctors you saw but there are medications they prescribe to help with the pain, which is nerve pain and there are other things you can do to lessen the pain.  However, it sounds like you want to suffer  with it.  Good luck with that.

I don't know why you say it sounds like I want to suffer??? Seriously???

I have been through this before with excruciating pain. I don't have that this time. I just don't feel well. I went to the doctor last time they gave me Tramadol for pain it did not work. They would not give me anything else. After 3 months he took me off it & put me on Gabapentin (sp) that did not do squat either. I was on the edge of killing myself I was in so much pain so don't tell me I want to suffer. I have already had to do that. Not my choice. Why would I go back to the doctor if I did not receive any help last time??? At first my doctor tried to tell me I did not have Shingles & sent me to the hospital for tests to see what was up?

Enjoy your Christmas too. I will tell the mom & see what she says. If she does not want me around her I will just stay home. I don't want to get something started.

@Nightowlz   I went to the ER and was treated promptly and given a prescription for meds...which did help.

If your doctor Is not on the ball and doesn't or won't help,  go to the ER.

@Nightowlz  What are you expecting us to do?? You won't go to the doctor? You are infected everyone that comes close to you, you know. Sorry, but until you seek medical help I'm sure none of us will be able to help you. Wow.

@ID2

I just wanted to make sure I was correct about being around babies. I'm sure my grand niece does not want me around her baby.

Doctor did not help me last time so why should I bother?

Then go to another doctor.  Why do you want to play Russian roulette with your health?  If you do have shingles, then your immune system is already compromised, and without treatment (such as Valtrex) it will degrade further.

My DH had a strange rash over a small area several years ago.

I badgered him to go to our PCP, who confirmed it was shingles.  He gave him a shot, and it went away.  We have both had the vaccine and hope for the best.  People with shingles can really suffer.  When I know something strange is going on with my body, my PCP will see me ASAP.  And I will only have a board-certified internal medicine doctor.  That’s just a qualification we have always looked for, but I know others without that can also be fine doctors.

@PamfromCT :  Did you and your husband get the two shot version of Shingles shots?  If not, you need to be revaccinated.

I have had the Shingles for 9 months. After the first visit to my derm. doctor she started me on Valtrex that did no good at all. So I went back to her and she gave me a shot which did nothing. About two months later which was just this last Monday....I had a diabetes appoinment with Internal Medicine doctor and after we talk diabetes....I told her that I had been suffering with this awful pain in my upper where my shingles rash was. She immediately diagnoised me as having posttherpetic neualgia. This is when the shingles  does not go away. The rash causes geat pain. With this condition the nerves are damaged and there is no cure for it. My doctor started me on Lyrica which is helping a little. In 100 people over 60 10% are left with this condition. I guess I was in that 10%. So my advice....please get vaccinated. This is an awful condition.

Why would you not go to the doctor or at least the walk in clinic? They could start you on a course of Valtrex which would help.

You say you had shingles before - is this spot near the last outbreak or at least on the same side? If its blistery looking, oozing, or painful that's probably what you have. But again, you should see a professional.

IMO, you should not be near young children.
