Allergic Reaction to Florist Foam

I am working of a crafts project and I needed florist foam. I unwrapped it and it got all over my hands and as I was working on the project I felt my lips and throat feeling fuzzy, I have had reactions like this to things like Strawberries and Asparagus never to an object.

I used some milk to soothe my mouth and took a benadryl.

Its been an exciting afternoon here

Oh no! That's not the exciting afternoon you had planned I bet! Glad the milk soothing. I have an autoimmune issue and floral foam dust bizarrely gave me hives once. My doctor said she thought it was formaldehyde in It.

I have never had that reaction to florists foam, but whenever I am using it, I take it outside and use it on my patio table, so the mess stays outside. I am so glad you didn’t have a worse reaction!

Re: Allergic Reaction to Florist Foam

I have had bad reactions to florist foam as well. I am allergic to almost everything with some serious reactions that sends me to the ER. Benedry works for me. I also found relief with the First Aid cream for the topical rash and itch. Running cool water ove the skin will sometimes help. Hope you feel better soon.

Florist foams contains a few bad chemicals in it. I would wear gloves when working with it even if you don't have allergies to it.

Wow! I'ts so unfortunate to have that happen while doing something I'm assuming you enjoy. We just don't know what they are putting in crafting supplies these days. So many of the products we use on a regular basis are contaminated with things we can't even pronounce, without a dictionary. I am so sorry that happened to you, but am glad you had a favorable outcome.😊

It's a good thing you had some Benadryl in the house.  People can be allergic to absolutely everything.  I remember a co-worker once had a similar reaction to the ink cartridge when she was changing the ink in the photocopy machine.  Her lips felt "funny" she said and she turned red as a beat.  There was an RN in our unit who knew enough to get some Benadryl from someone and she gave her a double dose.  5 minutes later and she was fine.
