Is intermittent fasting done for weight loss or are there other benefits from doing it? I don't need to lose weight. Just asking.

Yes, you can have coffee but no sugar. You can do the Bulletproof style coffee with coconut oil and butter but not milk (heavy cream okay). This is the best thing you can do for yourself! it promotes autophagy for longevity. I was doing this before it had a name. I hated breakfast (and still do) so i have been doing this since my teens (I am 63). You try to decrease the amount of time you are eating. I am not hungry until 1 or 2 so have my first meal then; then i have dinner around 5ish. Then i am done. If you want to try it, just delay your breakfast an hour each day to your comfort. Lots of info on it. Dr. Fung wrote a book on it; also Dr. Mercola has lots of info on it. I was so happy when i heard it has a name and actually good for you.

@Kachina624 wrote:@colleena I'd certainly consult my doctor before launching this unorthodox eating plan. For some people it could be very unsafe or even fatal. I've never heard of a doctor recommending a diet like this.
My PCP has an eating window and has been onboard with me doing this for the past three years, @Kachina624. I don't do IF in the same way as @SeaMaiden though.

Very important question, tomorrow am can I have coffee? Thanks,
I have done many different ways of fasting, both for medical procedure reasons, and for my own physical trial and error studies of my body, and how it reacts.
I have no clue how anyone else does it, nor am I interested. What I consider to be fasting for me, not to anyone else, is this. No solid foods. Full stop.

@colleena , I would discuss this with your physician. I would also request to get a referral to see a registered dietician. You will learn a lot of valuable information to help you decide if this way of eating is for you. I have many friends that are health care professionals that have embraced this life style with great results. Not just weight loss, but body chemistries corrected. Best wishes to you!

Both my internest and my endocrinologist (a specialist in thyroid disorders and diabetes management) have endorsed my approach to healthy eating and are pleased with my overall health every time I have a check up.
They both have known since I lost the first 50 pounds that I do this.
I've done 23/1 for over 8 years, lost over 100 pounds, and for me, no interest in changing. I eat one super nutritious meal daily, and drink 2 cups of coffee when I wake up in the morning, and a cup of coffee or tea at noon, with. 12&1/2 and stevia.
My body metabolism has not been "thrown into hibernation" although I'm kind of charmed by the concept.
I've taken thyroid replacement for years, starting when I weighed about 255 and continuing until my present 155 weight. The dose has always been the same, however much I've weighed.
I NEVER recommend life style changes to anyone, because I think we all need to assume personal responsibility, but since I must have tried EVERY "....healthy balanced eating and NO CRAVINGS/moderation/don'tgiveupyourfavorites..." diet ever SOLD as THE CURE, and never really maintained a healthy weight until the last 8 or so years, I have to think I'm doing just fine with fasting.
Do the research and be SURE to see what your doctor thinks. If the doctor you talk to is research oriented, you may be surprised at what you hear.

Just have to say that INTERMITTENT FASTING works, it's just a new way of WHEN YOU EAT AND WHEN YOU STOP.
I achieved a weight loss,50 lbs. which I could NEVER succeed In doing when I was younger even starving didn't work.
Did find that using MCT powder helped me in such a BIG way as it took away the cravings, and allowed me to have 1 cup of coffee in the morning. I know it says black coffee but I need my cup of coffee .I did it "MY WAY" and it worked.
Started off 16/8 now some days can do 20/4.
Will continue this lifestyle of eating because no doctor recommendations in trying to loose weight ever worked for me.

I've done my own version of IF. I skip breakfast and eat a low carb lunch & dinner. If I'm hungry in between my two meals I'll have a low carb snack like nuts or cheese.
I started eating like this in Nov. (I took a day off for Thanksgiving & Christmas) and by May I lost 25 lbs.
The point of interminttent fasting is to keep blood surgar down. Every time you eat (even if it's low carb) your blood sugar goes up and can eventually cause long term health problems.
ETA: I don't count calories.

No one ever told me to drink my coffee black 🥴-I've done my 1/2&1/2 and stevia since the day I started.
Be careful of "experts" who aren't also medical professionals.
Also, very few "dieticians" I've encountered veer very far from "3 balanced meals a day, moderation", which has not worked for me in 60 years or so.
