@jubilant

Wife and I got our flu shots yesterday. Hey, to me I have more reasons to get it than not. He!!, who gets a guarantee on anything, in the game called life? I also had a physical workup, blood tests and all. Getting it tested for Vitamin D level added. Been taking 4,000IU for a few years now so should be good.

Got started on 50mg Zinc tablets a couple days ago. The ***** Virus Doctors I follow say the combination of 4,000IU of D-3 and the 50mg of Zinc have shown several beneficial things for old farts like me.

@ALRATIBA I think you should do whatever seems right for you, without any interference from others.  You know what makes sense to you, and what is best for you, intuitively.  Do not ever feel guilty about doing what you, personally, think is best for yourself.  We must always listen to our inner voice.  I have found that my inner voice never leads me to the wrong conclusion.

Thanks for that!  When I want an expert opinion, I always talk to myself.  Smiley Wink

Hey, John.   Thanks for the reminder.  I ordered my vitamins online and felt I had forgotten something.  I just realized when I read your post it's the Zinc I forgot!  I had read an article on the D3 and Zinc not too long ago and it also said that that particular combination was promising. I agree....no quarantees so you just take the knowledge you have and hope it does some good!

I've been getting email reminders to get a flu shot - and this morning it occurred to me:

Why?  We are wearing masks and social distancing.  Why do we need a flu shot?

Last year, I was feeling awful for two weeks after the shot - and I've been putting off getting the shot.

There have been a couple of years I got both the flu shot and the (diagnosed by doctor) flu, and the flu didn't last as long as the side-effects of last year's shot.

I agree. Anyone practicing all the COVID-19 safety guidelines is going to be pretty well protected from getting the flu, too.

Not that the flu shot helps much anyway unless it happens to contain one of the strains going around. That is just chance.

On the advice of my dr I don't get a flu shot because of my auto immune disorder.

What concerns me is that people get their immunizations on the advice of advertising and not a consult with their dr.

What's new this year is the appearance of a new heavy duty flu shot for those over 65. The marketing is well, more is better!

@Snowpuppy   Flu shot does not do us any good, so no need to get it.  Save it for someone else.

@Nonametoday

I'm not sure, if you're referring to a specific group, or, the flu shot, in general, when you say it does no good, but, you're wrong!

I certainly hope, that no one, relies, on a message forum, for medical advice! Even so, I think your advice, is based on your opinion, and irresponsible.

If, by chance, you're referring to senior's and the flu shot, it's true, the shot may not be as effective at 75, as at 25, but, that's not the shot, that's, the simple fact, that, like everything else, our immune systems, decline with aging.

But, isn't some protection, better than none?

@SuhseK   I never come to QVC for medical advice.  Not yours, not that of anyone else.

@Kachina624

No, it wasn't for some other reason.  I was told to expect to have "flu symptoms" for a few days when I got the shot.

@ALRATIBA. I can't imagine the horror of getting the flu and covi19 at the same time.  That's why they're urging people to get the flu shot.  For most seniors, it would probably be a death sentence.

The flu vaccine contains no live component so it couldn't give you the flu.  If you felt badly afterwards, it was for some other reason.

I have been taking Zinc, D3, and a gram of C daily for a while.

The *** Virus has encouraged me to be more diligent.

Hope it is good for you.

@hckynut , I got my flu shot yesterday too, and I've had a deficiency in Vit. D and been having to take Vit. D, I guess I should be taking Zinc, too!

The vaccine may prevent or lessen the effects of the flu.  So you benefitted.  The flu can kill you, particularly as an older person.
