A couple weeks ago I had blood work done.

One of the results was my lack of vitamin D.

I was prescribed one pill for 8 weeks of D2, 1.25MG (50,000 Unit) , today is my second week.

When I complete them I start the next day, Vitamin D3 (400 unit) tablets twice a day for 30 days.

The pharmacist told me to take K2.

The only K2 I can find is Rite Aid's brand, which I purchased.

So many of our members are more informed than I am.

When do I take K2?
I'll see my pharmacist next week.

I'd appreciate any suggestions from those who also have experience with it.

Medicine is complicated. I'd ask an MD not this forum and get a 2nd opinion from what your pharmacist is telling you. I take vita D3 without K2 and have for many, many, many years. Talk with your MD.

@ahoymate ,

Thank you, I see my primary care physician in a week, I'll ask her.

I understood the instructions, pharmacist threw me with K2.

There was a discussion about this recently, and I didn't see a concensus of opinion on whether to take the K2 at the same time as the D or separately.  Even Dr. Google didn't have a clear answer.

I've been taking my K2 in powder form in my morning yogurt and my D at night.  However, I recently saw some Vitamin D tabs that include the K2.  I got my K2 at Amazon.  It comes in a small container with a tiny measuring spoon.

Yes. D2, once a week for 8 weeks and D3, twice a day for 30 days.

I also saw the combination on Amazon.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I see my pcp in a week, I'll ask her.

I like the idea of the powder form, I have non fat Greek yogurt each morning.

Thank you.

@Alsace Gal I can answer all your questions.  Seriously.  I just had this discussion with my doctor, and with her advice and with ConsumerLab's (a third-party testing site) advice, I can tell you what brand and strength to get and when to take it.

First of all, I assume you're not taking blood thinners of any kind or your pharmacist wouldn't have told you to purchase K2.  If you are taking blood thinners, do not take K2, as it reduces their effectiveness.  There are some blood thinners that won't interact with K2, and your doctor/pharmacist can give you more information.

Bronson is the brand of K2 that ConsumerLab says gives you the most bang for your buck.  It is available from Amazon.  You do have to take it with a meal that contains fat, so I take it with lunch or dinner--whichever meal has the most fat in it.  There is controversy as to whether it should be taken at the same time as Vitamin D.  Some websites suggest it is okay, and others (like ConsumerLab) say to take it separately since they can compete with one another for absorption.  Since there is no definitive answer, I always take Vitamin D with lunch and then make sure to take Vitamin K with the meal that has the most fat.  So sometimes Vitamin D and Vitamin K are taken together with lunch and sometimes separately. (Vitamin D at lunch, Vitamin K at dinner)

Here are screenshots of ConsumerLab's information and the item on Amazon.  HTH!

Re: Questions on Vitamin D

[ Edited ]

I have been buying Andrew Lessman vitamins from  HSN. I think they are excellent but that is just my opinion. They are all in capsule form and easy to swallow.
