Intermittent Fasting - anyone doing it?

I've been doing intermittent fasting since April 2013.

I've lost almost 100 pounds, blood chemistries are all good, and blood pressure is low normal and with a few explainable variations, stable.

The latest research seems to indicate that for some (NOT ALL) people, intermittent fasting is a safe and positive lifestyle.

Is anyone else doing it?

Yesterday I ate a moderate breakfast, I had soup for lunch and no supper. I never eat past 4PM, and I never eat before 8 or 9 AM...sometimes I might have a light snack, sometimes I have my last meal before 4.

You decide how you want to do it

I’ve done it for the better part of two years now. Best thing I ever did. I do 16 : 8 and it’s done wonders for me.

@gellenThe basis is to cycle your eating window. They suggest starting 12:12 meaning if you eat breakfast at 8am you stop eating at 8pm. Most of those hours are sleeping so it’s not so bad.

You can work to a 10 hour or 8 hour eating window if you want. Up to you for what feels right.

Re: Intermittent Fasting - anyone doing it?

Apparently I've been doing it without realizing that's what I'm doing. I don't eat before 7am which is after I workout. If I'm home, I don't eat much during the day but then for dinner I'll eat a handful of pecans about 5-5:30 pm. If I've gone out for lunch and eat a lot I may not have those pecans and then not eat until next morning.

That's what has worked for me for losing weight. Started that about 5 years ago. I'm pretty healthy so didn't realize the "fasting" may be a contributing factor.

Never realized all the other benefits.

My sister doesn't eat until about 10 or 11am and then nothing after about 4 or 5pm. I can't do that. Although she does like her sweets....muffins, peach pie from Sprouts.

Re: Intermittent Fasting - anyone doing it?

Yes. Discovered this 3 years ago. Lost 25 lbs first year while friends were on costly fad diets. I'm at my best when I practice this. When I veer away, I give into emotional eating. I need to get back to my 5:2 week -- so thank you, poster, for the kick in the back end. It's not difficult after week two. Drink plenty of water and continue all your activities on your low calorie intake days. Make it as routine as possible.
