Re: TSA and going through screening

If you’re going to HI, you won’t need much but summer clothes and a nice outfit for dinner on the cruise. HI is quite casual. If you check a bag, have a large carry on and a purse, that’s a lot to schlep around.

And I agree, you will roast in a vest. If you have so much stuff it won’t fit in a suitcase and carry on, you need to rethink what you’re packing.

@bonnielu  Something else to consider..that is a lot of stuff for  a week cruise. You are allowed one carryon each and a personal item..purse etc. unless you have elite status with your airline, you will be paying hefty baggage fees..especially if your bags are more than 50 pounds.

you said you are only 5 feet tall...you will, also have to haul everything to your bus pickup at the airport.

Less s is more...I went to Hawaii for 2 weeks with a 24 inch checked bag and a small carryon...that included clothes for my Dh.

My packing technique.

Pack your bag with everything that you think that you will need, then take out half.

Vests are not considered your personal item.  However, anytime, anywhere, both DH and I and everyone else has had to completely empty our pockets before going through the scanner.

I usually have DH carry a purse also when we fly together 😉

Re: TSA and going through screening

I brought back a special brand of canned beans in my carryon...the scanner kept stopping my suitcase...had to open it up for the whole world to see....the beans are packed in water..maybe a teaspoon full....but the scanner picked up on it....had to throw them away...☹️

Usually, you can only bring your suitcase ( underseater or overhead) and 1 personal item.

I put my purse in my tote with all of my meds, book, etc. I finally found a lightweight flat folding satchel from HSN that will pack in the suitcase. It's called Girlfriend Gear, satchel $34, and crossbody as well.

Travel is stressful, so be prepared.

Life is too short to let baggage get you down. I check my large bag regardless of whether or not I am charged. On board I bring a wheeled  underseat bag with my electronics, chargers, jewelry, medications, extra glasses etc. My crossbody purse usually fits in as well or I wear that. DH has his own carry on bag and is responsible for his stuff.

I love to travel and I am on a plane at least once a year. I always marvel at all of the people that basically bring a U-Haul truck on the plane with them to fit into the overhead bins. I hate to carry anything on me when I fly. All that I bring is a crossbody bag, some sort of sweater because once you get into the air it always gets chilly, and a book. Everything else is checked, and I too do not care if I am charged or not.

@bonnielu   are you back from your trip?  I just got back yesterday from the POA Cruise . I loved it. What excursions did you do?  Would love to hear what you thought.

i used vacuum bags and managed to take just my carry on and a Lug small puddle jumper, which worked perfectly. I even had one outfit and a couple of shirts I didn't wear.

Hope you had as as much fun as I did.  There were twelve of us.
